“The devastation to Northeast fishing communities caused by Hurricane Sandy is deeply saddening and incredibly unfortunate. As anglers, all of these people are members of our community, our neighbors across the country,” Okuma Fishing Tackle wrote in a recent email blast to its customers.
To lend support to those in need, Okuma created a simple program that makes it easy for all of its customers to help.
Through December 15th, U.S. consumers can use the discount code SANDY on Okuma’s website and they will receive 50 percent off the retail price of all in-stock Okuma branded apparel, as well as select reels identified as Hurricane Sandy Relief products.
Throughout this period, 50 percent of the total purchase amount of the discounted items will be donated to the Red Cross and their efforts to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
For example, the Okuma hooded sweatshirt retails for $34.99. Using the discount code SANDY, the cost of the sweatshirt will be discounted to $17.50 plus shipping. Of the $17.50, Okuma will make a donation in the amount of $8.75 to the American Red Cross.
Okuma said it is offering this program with the realization that with tight budgets, many consumers are better able to make a donation as part of purchasing an item they want or need.
Proceeds will help the American Red Cross prepare for and respond to tropical activity such as Superstorm Sandy, with services such as food, shelter and emotional support to those impacted across the country. On those rare occasions when donations exceed American Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.
People are also encouraged to make donations directly to the American Red Cross by visiting www.redcross.org.
