Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day. My work offers the day as an optional floating holiday and I’m taking it. My plan is to take my own advice and go south and fish on the San Diego. Normally, that boat would be loaded the way they’ve been doing, but because of the passport requirement, it’s going to a light load.
They had a count on Sunday that was highlighted by 130 yellowtail, 2 halibut and a wahoo! There was a really cool story behind the angler, Amado Quintanilla, who caught wahoo (above, 2nd from right), that was shared by Capt. Taro Takeuchi (2nd from left). You can read Amado’s story on my So Cal Salty blog.
Veterans Day Specials
Thank you for your service.
Capt. Jeffrey Markland put his anglers Sunday on 104 yellowtail, 17 skipjack, 1 yellowfin tuna, 63 bonito, 46 calico bass and 1 triggerfish at San Clemente Island. The day included a hooked (but not landed) striped marlin. Even more amazing, the yellowfin tuna (pictured left) was landed while on the anchor, tight to the island, in just 21-fathoms of water!
They’re offering a $99 special tonight to veterans, fishing tomorrow.
If you don’t have time for an overnight, and maybe you can’t take tomorrow off to fish, MDR offers an Active Duty discount EVERY Day!
They’re still catching yellowtail. That’s my friend Rena Wiseman (below) with a nice yellow recently caught aboard the New Del Mar.
Your military ID gets you a ride at the child’s fare. I really appreciate that owner Rick Oeffinger offers that special on a daily basis.
The local tuna have come and gone, but there are still yellowtail around and good rockfishing is always available. They are offering a $10 discount to veterans on their day boats.
Further up north at Morro Bay Landing and Patriot Sportfishing, they are offering Buy One, Get One (BOGO) specials to veterans on their respective ¾-day runs. The Central Coast is home to fantastic shallow water rockfishing with a lot of lingcod and cabezon in the mix. Now might be a good time to check it out.
Good luck if you’re getting out there!
