Seaguar Kanzen Braid – A Better Braid?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere, you’ve either been fishing with or at least know about the advantages of using braided fishing line for a number of different applications. Today’s braided lines offer super-slim diameters, zero stretch and great strength, and they’ve become popular with fishermen of all types. Perhaps that’s why Seaguar, the inventor and leader in fluorocarbon fishing line, decided to expand its product line with the launch of Kanzen — a very strong, smooth-casting premium braid line.

“With the increase of anglers using braid-to-fluoro leader connections, we kept getting asked the question, ‘When is Seaguar coming out with braid?,’” says Seaguar Brand Manager Gerry Benedicto. “We initiated a two-prong research process, first to determine any issues anglers were having with current braid options, and second with our research-and-development team to develop a product that addressed those angler’s concerns.”

Seaguar did its homework. Kanzen was in development for more than two years, and the fact that the company took its time paid off. The new Kanzen has already been a big hit.

“Based on testing and initial consumer feedback, we feel Kanzen braid delivers the performance, characteristics, and quality that our flourocarbon line represents,” Benedicto says.

Kanzen — the Japanese word for “Infinity” — is made from advanced, ultra-thin microfiber strands in a high-density weave. It’s designed to deliver maximum knot strength with enhanced abrasion resistance. Yet Kanzen remains soft for smooth casting with increased sensitivity.

“Kanzen braid offers thin diameters with advanced microfibers and a high-density weave providing the best abrasion resistance,” Benedicto says. “Equally important, Kanzen doesn’t have a coating, so it’s able to remain extremely soft and supple allowing longer casts and smoother runs through the guides.”

Coated braid tends to be stiffer and when the coating wears off, the fibers in the braid start to fray.

Kanzen is available in two colors and a full range of pound-test sizes to meet all fresh and saltwater angler needs. The company offers the braid from 12- to 200-pound test. “Bass anglers are a very important segment which is why we wanted Kanzen to have excellent knot strength, thinner diameters and incredible abrasion resistance,” Benedicto says. “These are critical features for braid applications. Additionally, these features are important to inshore saltwater anglers as well so it works well for their needs. And of course, with the increase in hollow-core use with our offshore customers, we offer Kanzen white braid so you can make a wind-on connection to Seaguar fluorocarbon leader.”

Kanzen line from 100- to 200-pound is hollow core for making knotless connections and fluorocarbon splices to build your own wind-on leaders.

Odds are several, if not all of your reels, have braid on them. If you’re looking for a tough braided line that is easy to spool, soft and makes great knots, you might want to check out Seaguar’s Kanzen braid.
