Another great season is in the books for Scorpion Sportfishing and El Regalo Charters said owner Matthew Clifton. Matthew always dreamed of being a guide and that dream has come to fruition in Baja, Mexico where Matthew runs his charter operation.
In 2013, he took the plunge and bought the Scorpion, a 26-foot center console with twin outboards, making him one of the fastest in the fleet. Years later with his charter operation in full swing, Matthew had an opportunity to purchase the charter boat El Regalo and its full operation. He jumped at the chance and has never looked back.
“2016 was a great year for fishing Baja and we had many highlights that stood out from the rest”, said Matthew.
“Our 2016 season was highlighted by an epic wahoo season.
“Pretty much the whole season we had good quality wahoo close to shore.”
East Cape had a great marlin season with lots of medium sized blue marlin providing action.
In addition, there were more yellowfin tuna found in 2016 both in terms of numbers and size than the previous year.
We had some really nice catches especially in the fall and into winter.
We rounded out 2016 with an estimated 300-pounder and started 2017 with another weighing 310-pounds fishing out of Cabo San Lucas.
June was highlighted by a swordfish catch out of East Cape aboard El Regalo. It is very rare prize to land a broadbill swordfish after spotting it on the surface.
Scorpion Sportfishing was able to add a couple of tournaments wins to the belt as well as coming within an arm’s reach of a winning marlin in the East Cape Bisbee Tournament.
After an improved 2016, we are expecting a return to greatness for the East Cape in 2017. We still have lots of availability during our prime fishing season but it will fill up quickly so don’t wait.”
Matthew says it best, “Scorpion Sportfishing promises to provide a professional, quality charter and guide service to all our clients regardless of skill level. It is our goal to help clients become better anglers while ensuring each guest has a memorable and positive experience while in our care.”
