Berkley designed the PowerBait Heavy Weight Thump Worm to cover a range of water. Whether fishing this soft-plastic bait just below the surface or at deeper depths, anglers can use the oversized tail to make a thumping sound that will get the attention of surrounding bass. The Heavy Weight Thump Worm is also injected with PowerBait scent, giving the worm yet another hand up on the bass.
To get the Thump Worm to sink, Berkley uses a special material to add weight to the worm.
You can fish it weightless, or Texas rigged, depending on conditions. The paddle tail design increases an angler’s chances when fishing in muddy or stained water where bass rely on sound and vibration to lead them to their next meal. The secret is to keep the bait on the move so the tail action never lets up. Change the Thump Worm from a weighted worm to a buzz worm by cutting the tail along the indentation. Once cut in half, the tail gets even more action as it slaps around.
“This is the kind of bait I use when I am developing a pattern,” says Berkley Pro Angler Byron Velvick. “The Thump Worm allows me to cover a bunch of water and with its beaver tail the Thump Worm can be fished multiple ways. This is a great bait when fish are holding to shallow grass. I can Texas-rig this bait with a 4/0 wide-gap hook with a ¼-ounce bullet weight and fish it through the grass.”
The 7-inch Heavy Weight Thump worm is available in eight fish colors: black, black/blue fleck, black/red fleck, green pumpkin, green pumpkin party, pearl silver, watermelon and watermelon big red. A package of five worms retails for $5.99.
