The ball has dropped, the date has changed and it’s officially 2012. Man, time really flies when you are having fun, and last year whipped by like a center console powered by four outboards. But it is all good because this year is going to be a big one for www.bdoutdoors.com.
As you know, we relaunched the site back in May of last year. We added several key guys to the BD team and gave the site an entire new look and way more functionality. Thanks to BD’s Creative Director, Derek Redwine, the site looks better than it ever has. And, our editorial team, led by Editorial Director Charlie Levine, has added nearly 500 articles since the relaunch in May. But we’re not done yet, not by a long shot.
Our one-and-only new year’s resolution for 2012 is to bring our online community the best outdoor’s website on the internet.
With that in mind, we’ve upgraded our servers to handle all of the new features. We’ve brought in more writers and contributors, including Erik Landesfeind, who will be writing a weekly column about what’s biting in California as well as guys such as Capt. Steve Lassley, Capt. Scott Goodwin, Mark Wisch, Tim Ekstrom, Gary Graham and Chef Steve Black.
We’ve introduced many new features that are already a big hit… Can you say Fishin’ Chicks! (bdoutdoors.com/article/chicks-who-fish) The girls we’re going to write about each month actually fish and they just happen to photograph pretty nice as well.
Each day we will post the latest news and fishing reports on the homepage in a new area called On the Wire (bdoutdoors.com/daily-highlights). If you haven’t already bookmarked this page, you should. It’s a great spot to visit every day and get your fix on the latest news.
From our constantly updated forum posts to new gear, how-to articles and travel stories, we’ve always got our finger on the pulse of the fishing world. And don’t forget to check out the awesome fishing images on our large-format photo viewer called the Impact Zone. If you love to hunt, fish, boat and dive, you will find everything you need to keep you in the action at www.bdoutdoors.com.
We also launched The Hook, the official e-newsletter of BDoutdoors.com. If you’re not already a member, make sure to register (for free!) so you won’t miss a single issue. Each month, The Hook will show up in your in-box and provide quick links to the hottest topics on the site.
We’ve also made important strides on the conservation front. The BD development crew, led by Ali Hussainy, went to work with the team from the American Sportfishing Association and the United Anglers of Southern California to develop a new website to help battle the Marine Life Protection Act, which is threatening recreational fishing in California. If you haven’t already done your part, please consider donating a small monthly fee at www.savecafishing.org. These funds go directly to the legal fund set up to battle the greenies who are pushing these draconian laws. Those who donate will also receive discounts as well as other great offers.
We’re only scratching the surface here and will continue to roll out new features in 2012. It’s going to be a big year for all of us who use the forums, articles, photo galleries, video and more at www.bdoutdoors.com. Thank you for all of your support and we wish you a happy and healthy new year. Now, get out and go fishing.
