Gary Hopkins is breaking in the new Roddy Reaper spinning rod and R2S 2-speed reel.

Now Master Tackle is proud to offer the Roddy Reaper graphite rods to compliment their spinning reels plus conventional models too.

The new Roddy Reaper rods are constructed using a one-piece, multidirectional layered graphite composite blank.  This creates a lightweight outfit with crisp action for both saltwater and freshwater fishing.  The Reaper comes in both spinning and casting versions for a variety of fishing styles.

Roddy ReaperSaltwater models feature EVA grips and Roddy aluminum hooded reel seats with a gimbal and removable gimbal cap. Freshwater models feature split cork grips and carbon fiber reel seat hood.  All Roddy Reaper rods are backed with a 5-year limited warranty from manufacture defects and come in at a very competitive price point.

roddy rodsWe took the Roddy Reaper spinning rod and paired it up with the R2S 2-speed spinner and the Roddy Reaper conventional with a Penn 4/0 reel.  On a recent trip out of Port Canaveral, we used the new outfits to drop baits on an artificial reef in 130-feet of water.

A nice mangrove kicks off the catch by Drew Wottring of Indiana using the brand new Roddy Reaper conventional rod.

We were expecting the usually swarm of big red snapper that frequent most inshore structures so imagine our surprise when the first drop made it to the bottom into the waiting jaws of a decent mangrove snapper.  “We were dropping cigar minnows on 50# leader and 50# main line.  The Roddy Reaper performed nicely, plenty of backbone without sacrificing sensitivity”, said Capt. Scott Goodwin.  “They are a great rod for the value and I could see them being useful in a variety of types of fishing.”

Lane snapper, despite their smaller size, are a welcome site because they are incredible eating.  Cut squid is a favorite bait and the Reaper is just right for feeling the bite, but then cranking them up away from the structure.

Reaper Rods from Roddy come in offshore and inshore models.
