As most of you know, the take of bluefin tuna by American-based boats was cut off last year. This made life harder for the long range fleet based in SoCal that fishes these waters regularly. Luckily the crazy El Nino fishing blitz in U.S. waters eased the pain and suffering of this closure, but for now, Mexican bluefin are back on the menu.
A new bag limit for Mexican and foreign vessels has been posted and reads: A capture quota for bluefin is two specimens per angler, per day, maintaining in effect the maximum cumulative bag limit of three times the daily limit for trips lasting three days or more.
So enjoy this privilege and treat it with respect so that we may hope to keep the option for the future.
