Mazatlan Dorado Derby

With September in the air and cooler weather upon us, the fishing is still HOT, HOT, HOT!

At 6.00 a.m. over 30 sportfishing vessels left the Marinas Mazatlan and El Cid to spend a fabulous day on the smooth seas vying for the biggest dorado.

Ricardo Ramirez landed the winning dorado, weighing in at 48-pounds. He and his buddies Bernardo Valades and Sergio Garcia Granados were about 26 miles off the beautiful shore of Mazatlan when they hooked up around 2 in the afternoon. Their vessel “Mi Buena Suerte” in Spanish translates to “My Good Luck”

These guys walked away with the 100,000 peso prize, roughly $ 7500.00 U.S. Second place went to Ricardo Fuentes, Ramon Puerto and crew of Sea Biscuit who reeled in a 45.5-pound fish. Third place was Alejandro Garza and crew of Chacalosas with a respectable 36.6-pound fish.

After a good days fishing, a fine time was had by all at the Derby headquarters “Dock 7 Restaurant and Bar”

“Fresh Fish and Cold Beer” are the operative words here!

Thanks go to everyone who entered. Special mention should go to the owners and staff of “Dock7” for putting out fantastic food in a truly nautical atmosphere.
