Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Winners

The winning teams in the 15th annual four-day Western Outdoor News/Yamaha Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot tournament divided $542,000 in prize money while raising an unprecedented amount for local charities.

One hundred thirty four teams from as far away as Japan entered the angling competition and did battle for cash and prizes.

A good time was had by all, and the tournament raised money for local charities in the area.

Team Reel Quest with Dick Landfield of Fairway Ford; Bob Smith, Cabo San Lucas and Minerva’s Tackle; Bill Savage, Las Vegas; and Henry Arres, Temecula; arrived at the scale a few minutes before the 6 p.m. closing with a 192-pound yellowfin tuna worth $242,960.

The remaining $299,040 was split among six teams.

Second Place was Team Lone Stars of Richmond, Texas on the Andrea with a 172.6-pound yellowfin, earning $5,360.

Third Place winner was Team Reina de Wahoo, headed by Robert Deeter, Ft. Bragg, Calif., with a 170.0-pound tuna, for $2,680.

The “Fat Farmers,” aboard Bob Marlin, with anglers Bart Scofield, Arbuckle, Calif.; and Jim Campbell, Princeton, Calif. brought home a 85.7-pound yellowfin, winning the $3-, $5-, and $10-thousand dollar jackpot options for $114,000.

Team Pillage, aboard El Diablo, Ron Bauer, La Conner, Wash.; Alan Kleiven, Sweet Home, Ore.; Connie Bauer, La Conner, Wash.; and Thomas Rux, Gilroy, Calif.; landed a 131.9-pound tuna, and grabbing the $500, $1,000 and $2,000 jackpots for $83,400.

A 39.6-pound wahoo landed on the Cheers I by WIN-TEAM members Pamela Lorenz, Anaheim, Calif.; George Priest, Norco, Calif.; and Patrick Smith, Huntington Beach, Calif.; in the Wahoo Dorado category, scored $46,800.

While Miguel Angeles, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Eduardo Guluarte, Jaime Pino, and Raul Figueron, aboard Koi Sushi, nailed a 52.6-pound wahoo, in the Wahoo Dorado category for another $46,800.
