Six hundred seventy-one anglers and crews consisting of 114 teams competed in the 19th Annual Los Cabos Offshore Tournament, Oct. 19-22, with winners carrying home $823,500 in cash.
Said tournament director Wayne Bisbee, “The Los Cabos Offshore can’t be called the ‘Baby Bisbee’ any longer. It’s all grown up.”
After the spindrift had settled, the largest fish boated was a 574-pound blue marlin landed by angler Tom Powell, Charleston, SC, aboard the 80-foot Viking sportfisher Hooray. The massive billfish took 3 hours, 30 minutes for Powell to land.
He hooked the winner at 4:45 p.m. and struggled until well past dark. Hooray then high-tailed it back to the marina at about 40-knots to reach the official scales before the close of weigh-ins.
Powell’s prize fish was worth $284,683.
The winner of the Gamefish Category with a 101-pound yellowfin tuna caught on the first day was angler Juan Barajas of Team PxP with a jackpot of a remarkable $121,830 including overall and daily jackpots.

2nd Place, Gamefish, Mako Sportfishing Yellowfin Tuna 86-pounds $73,950.
2nd Place, Billfish Div., Ten Brothers; Blue Marlin 480-pounds $16,159.50.
3rd Place, Billfish Div., Tiger Spirit; Black Marlin 421-pounds $8,977.50.
El Suertudo took First Place with 4 blue marlin and 2 striped marlin in a shorter elapsed time of 28-minutes that allowed them to receive $51,935.00.
Go Deeper 60, placing Second, also released 4 blue marlin and 2 striped marlin in 42-minutes, tying with El Suertudo, and settled by the time elapsed $17,977.50.
Outa Line, taking Third Place with 3 blue marlin, 1 striped marlin and a sailfish to capture to win $9,987.50.
Next up is the 37th Annual Bisbee Black and Blue, October 24-28. This event primarily targets black and blue marlin weighing a minimum of 300-pounds to qualify. All others, including striped marlin, sailfish and spearfish are released with special prizes for the top release teams. This year’s across-the-board entry is $71,500, plus the winner-take-all “Chupacabra Challenge” of $60,000, which boosts the total entry to $131,500. The event offers entrants the possibility of becoming a member of the exclusive Bisbee Millionaire Club.
