Wahoo Bite For Rooster
Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates posted late February 5:
“I thought this was a cool picture of a big wahoo caught on the troll, on an Accurate 50 and Cal Star rod with 100-pound Izorline.”
Earlier, Cates posted: “We fished wahoo today from just before lunch until dark. it was a bit scratchy but still enough action to keep is busy throughout the day. We got close to 40 wahoo today and about 20 nice yellows into the dark.”
Royal Polaris provided this summary of the Jerry Brown Line One trip that came home February 6:
“On Jan.19 the trip started out pretty normal until we got to the bait receivers and loaded up on the best sardines we have seen in some time. Travel south was nice and the weather was beautiful. On the 21st and 22nd we fished Alijos rocks and got daily limits of fine wahoo. “On the 24th we arrived at and fished Hurricane Bank for the entire week. Afternoons were filled with awesome wahoo action! Mornings and evenings were spent capturing tuna (it’s what we do) 120 to 140-pounders, several 170’s, a few 190’s and between one and five giant 200-pound plus Yellowfin Tuna every day! “After cleaning out the Hurricane Bank we headed to the Buffer Zone where we continued to conk some really nice tuna and picked up our final two 200-pounders.
That made a grand total 175 Yellowfin Tuna, eighteen over 200 pounds and limits of wahoo!”
