Local Knowledge S3 E03 “Take The Wheel” Preview

May 1, 2018 by BD Staff

Local Knowledge Take wheel S3 E03

Local Knowledge

Traditionally, the process of becoming a captain starts with becoming a mate.  An apprenticeship where one can learn the ropes and tricks of the trade from a captain with much more experience on the water.  “There is a whole lot of knowledge involved in taking and inexperienced group of people offshore. Keeping them safe, having a good time and if all goes well, catching them fish is all part of the job”, said Capt. Rush Maltz.  “A boat captain has to be an electrician, plumber, mechanic, fishermen, weatherman, coach, entertainer and more.  There is a lot wrapped up into the role, and climbing the ladder to becoming captain can take years as a mate.”

DJ is taking on this role and Rush and Ali give him a crash course in dealing with “that guy”.

Local Knowledge

All of this good-natured fun is taking place in the incredible backdrop of the Florida Keys where the boys are picking off a mixed bag of reef species from tuna to mutton snapper.

Take The Wheel will air May 6th and 13th on Discovery at 8 am.

Local Knowledge

Local Knowledge now airs every Sunday on Discovery Channel at 8AM EST/PST.  You can catch up on the Season 3 kick off episode and all previous seasons on any Local Knowledge streaming and online source.  Its all free and waiting for you.

local knowledgeThe show Local Knowledge explores the culture of fishing itself and follows real life characters that spend their lives dedicated to fishing and the outdoors.

Local Knowledge focuses on the differing and often humorous viewpoints of two drastically different fishermen from opposite sides of the country. Ali Hussainy of San Diego, California is the President of BD Outdoors, the largest fishing site on the web. Capt. Rush Maltz is a born and raised Florida Keys fishing guide. Each is a master on their home turf, but the playing fields are leveled as they travel to strange waters to explore and learn new local knowledge.

Follow two friends as they explore both local and exotic fishing destinations in search of a new flavor of local knowledge. They not only dig deep into the fishing aspect, but the food, people and the culture of fishing that permeate a local and make it unique and special. They seek out a new kind of adventure off the beaten path.
