You can be a part of history revived if you fish the International Yellowtail Derby this summer. Fish any or all days from May 4th to June 8th and biggest yellowtail wins. There will also be categories for white seabass and halibut.
This historic tournament ran from 1946 to 1973 and was a big part of San Diego’s early fishing history.
It was and still is popular, because anyone can win it, whether you fish everyday on your own boat, or only once aboard a sportboat. The biggest fish wins.
The tournament was resurrected by Mr. John Campbell, at the urging of colleagues and it is now in the sixth year since it restarted. Anglers will have 36 days to fish and the awards ceremony will be on June 8th, 2014.
There is an early bird entry of only $50 until April 1st, so sign up now. (for discount, use IGFA member radio button on online payment page). There will be lots of cash and prizes from many great sponsors to be announced.
There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for Yellowtail, Halibut, and White Sea Bass.
Additionally, biggest fish in each category caught during the weekends will also win a Prize!
So if you catch a 100# Yellowtail on the first Saturday of the tournament, and it is the biggest Yellowtail of the weekend and entire tournament, you will win a weekend prize and the Grand Prize!
