We headed down on 06.01 and crossed at 6:00 am Mexicali East. We declared some house upgrade materials and we were on our way down Mexico 5. Pavement upgrades in San Felipe were noted as well as Coco's Corner, relocated off the Highway.
Pavement deterioration is easily noticeable once past the 2 mile mark on the way into the Bay. It seemed like westbound was in worse shape but it is getting to be a slower and more careful drive each time we visit. There were some serious potholes.
Fished 06.02 through 06.05, took two days off (very heavy East winds) and finished 06-09. First three days jurel were hitting jigs hard (blue and white, green and yellow). Rest of the days yellowtail only came in off the troll using Rapala deep divers in blue and silver. Our neighbor was also catching them on the troll using blue and silver as well as orange and white. Troll also worked on groupers trolling Horsehead, Ventana Reef, and Calavera. Large jurel were anywhere from Peohe to Horsehead and up outside Ventana Reef. Every day and night we had East winds and the day temps hit 104 several times.

We came home via Mexico 1 with a stop at Jardines for the evening dinner bell and accommodations. No road issues until Maneadero and then it is terrible traffic as well as some poor road conditions.
Our neighbor crossed at Tecate on 06.08 and had a 15 minute wait. Our wait on Friday was 2hours and 10 minutes. Two CBP officers are outside the border signposts doing a precheck on passports due to cars getting to the CBP booth and the occupants wanting asylum. It snarled the traffic for a couple of days until CBP came up with the pre-check plan. The phone app on border crossings showed Mexicali West at 15 minutes.
We asked what happens if you are in line and it is 2:00 pm at Tecate. Were told cars make a u turn and either spend the night in Tecate or you go to another border crossing.

Many thanks to Wendall and Marcella of TriPaddle Maui for sending us the long sleeve spf fishing shirts.

Great report, thanks for posting. Wondering about your declarations at the crossing in Calexico. We're heading down in July and thinking of bringing a sofa and some building materials for the place. Usually we just bring small stuff so have never declared, but a sofa is a bit hard to hide. What was the process, how long and what do they charge for importation? Any insight on your experience would be much appreciated.

Declarations are fairly easy. Have a receipt for any items to declare. Used items are not usually declared.
I believe the import was 15%
Customs will direct you to parking on the right (Mexicali East). Simply go into the office with your receipts and fill out the form. Pay the duty.
Have the form as you pull out to show the guard at the exit gate and you are done. Very easy.

ZOOBOYS are awesome. Thanks for the great detailed report. We are trying to put something together to get down but probably won't make it until after the July 4th holiday.
