Picked up a used bait tank last weekend. If we didn’t fish my bosses bass bait We would always fish artificial and cut squid. so this is new to me and I’ll have to post a how to properly install a bait tank. I got a good idea and I need to remove a thru transducer so I already have a hole for a hispeed pick up. So I will need to get the pick up a seacock and a pump. My question is this tank dose not have a over flow. Do I need to cut one and plumb one in?

There are 3 spots one looks to be a drain the 2nd looks like the fill to get current and the 3rd I’m not sure what that would be used for. Any input would be helpful. Thanks

Third is just a drain to pull at end of day so you get all of the water out. Also wouldn't remove the ducer unless you plan on repairing/filling in the hole as the pickup is going to be way smaller.

You shouldn't need an overflow but it would have been good to know which size pump the last owner was using. I would guess 750 GPH. Each tank tells you what you need, and to much flow seams just as bad as to little. If you are getting overflow you could just drill a few more holes in the outflow chamber (assuming that is the problem). Don't forget the order, pick up, shut off valve then pump. That order is very important. Why do you want to get rid of the transducer, why not just leave it and add this new system?

So do I need a fill pump and a circulation pump? I no the bottom on is a drain. And the second is the in flow. So I’m guessing the 3rd is a outflow chamber? So what is a the outflow chamber used for? I no I sound like I idiot.. but their is no such thing as a stupid question when you don’t no.
The transducer came in the boat when I got it and will not work with units as far as I no. It’s a airmar b45 525t bsc. Useless for me. Was going to take it out and fill the hole anyway. So now I have a use for it

Sureflo is the standard for bilge and bait pumps but of course you can get to higher quality later on. I would start with a sureflo bait pump until I was sure of the proper GPH. You are correct on your identification, the outflow with many small holes has a chamber with small holes so it doesn’t get clogged with sardines which would clog larger and fewer holes.

Do not use a cartridge style pump. Shuflo uses a magnetic coupling to drive the pump. https://www.pentair.com/en-us/produ...isposal/marine/shurflo-bait-sentry-pumps.html

The cartridge pump has a SS shaft that will shear when you are on plane. A High-speed water pickup scoop will partially fill the tank when the boat is running and the pump is off.

You did not say what size tank you have. I have a 60 gallon tank and I use a 1500gph pump. 15 to 20 gallon use a 800gph. 30 to 45 gallon use the 1100gph. A SS quarter turn Ball Valve can be used to control the flow of the pump is flowing too much water You want to have the tank fill in 6 to 8 minutes. To fast close down the valve down. Better to have to much flow and use the valve to control than to have a small pump and not enough flow. DEAD BAIT!

Mine is Aluminum and is welded down to the deck. I have a UHMW Cutting board that holds 6 drinks. Also holds the bottles of scent for Salmon fishing. I use it to cut bait, hold gear for quick changes when using downriggers. I also have rod holders on my tank 6ea for tuna fishing.

From the dimensions It should be 8 cubic ft of water and that’s 59.84 gallons… but the way the top is I would guess 45 to 50… I’m going to check this weekend puttinh in 5 gallons at a time.
