I'm going out of marina del Rey tomorrow. I have seen some spoty yt counts. Anybody got any insight on any bites or what they are using?

The report on Facebook said this:
SPITFIRE ON THE SANTA MONICA BAY YELLOWTAIL AGAIN TODAY

What a beautiful grade of fish; 25-35 pounds. That's what the boats out of Marina del Rey Sportfishing have been catching lately. The last time we got a report from the Spitfire, they had 4 on board. The weather is even more beautiful today so one might think that this will continue. Most fish have been on the yo-yo iron with a considerable amount of fish being taken on a dropper-loop rig with a live mackerel.

The Spitfire topped off with some sculpin but no more yellowtail. You know what they say; tomorrow is another day.

    Tackle
    50-60 pound test
8 to 12 ounce torpedo sinkers
    6x jr style lures
    5-O to 7-O Hooks

Water temps are 61* in the area they are catching them. Depth is anywhere from 140'-225'. Salas 6x Jr in mint, red crab and scrambled egg are working. Button down drags and heavy line since you are fishing structure. Forget bait, the area is plugged so its pretty much only a reaction bite.

We are seeing a big swell come in. Be safe.

Last year we got them in 70-80ft trolling live macs. Won't be long before that happens this year. :hali_olutta:

Good luck when you go out.

Fished it today with 2 sport boats and 10 privates until high tide at 10am. No action.
Water was 61.5 outside and 63.5 on the inside with red crabs. T

The sport boat skippers were on the p.a. saying that they were metering fish, but I couldn't say for sure if my meter marks were really tails. T

Heavy jigs tady 4/0, Salas 6xjr, Salas 6x and my favorite Salas 7x heavy. I fish 50# and heavy gear. 40 size real button down. Don't be afraid to pull hard as soon as you get bit. It's your only chance. These fish are big and mean. You give them a chance and they win. Good luck!!

I was out there Friday. Four cattle boats 3 from del Rey and one from redondo. Bunch of private. Only saw one fish caught and it was on mackerel. Metered a lot of fish, big schools between 120ft and 200ft. I only used irons and they didn't want what I was throwing. Good luck.
