I have as 25 year old Penn 4/0 w/ Newell's narrow spool and bars. Best Yo Yo reel ever.
    Never mind not selling it.

For yoyo use a 25nld2 rather than the 30 which is too wide.

Penn US Senator 113N 4:3.1 gear ratio, 34” retrieve rate and 27lbs of drag. Just mixing it up with something old school.

A lot of reels will work for yo-yo, but if it’s yo-yo specific there are a handful of reels that really excel at it. My favorites are Penn Baja Special (US senator 113N now), Avet HXJ Raptor, Fathom 40N, etc. tall narrow reels are best. The fathom 25NLD2 will work well too if fishing for smaller fish or fishing shallow.

    I have the TRQ30LD2 and fish 50# yo-yo with it. It’s great.

The 25 size would be nice as well, but I have them on a 40# bait stick and 50# wahoo stick.

I like a 4/0 sized reel, kind of old school. I use a Trinidad 40 narrow, Trinidad 40, Newell 533 5.5 Newell 533 4.6 narrow. You do not need a 2 speed reel for this application.

I use 50lb mono for this, no spectra required, point the rod right at them and wind um in. If at Guadalupe, I switch to 60lb mono on the full sized reels above.

take the number of replies to your question and divide by 1. That is how many different reel recommendations you are going to get here.

    My $.02 :

    Bigger fish: Trini 40
    everything else: Avet LX 6/3

couple of years ago, I bought a souped up, narrowed, Penn113H to use for yoyo......but after using higher end reels for years, it just doesn't appeal to me. I'll be for sale soon....

Best thing to do is TRY as many as you can before deciding just based on specs and recommendations.....

Tiburon SST, any size, I use a SST7540 with 50# spectra and mono, 6-1 high till your bit, then instant autoshift to low gear, you don't miss a crank, fish decides to come up, instant shift back to high....I have one for sale if interested.....pm me

The Penn Fathom 30ld2 is fine for yoyo; used it for my 40lb yoyo rig last trip. Although narrow reels are more ideal, its not "too wide" unless you got tiny ass hands.
