That's what people at the meeting wanted. Less pressure for the Retired guys so they can sit at the ramp for an hour getting their shit ready to launch.

Sounds like they were still up in the air on a 2 fish season limit

I was at the meeting, and it was all about what the charter guys wanted. They pushed for Sundays, so they could book bottomfish trips on Saturday.

They are pushing hard for a 2 fish limit, so that they get a bigger piece of the pie. I gave my opinion, and than they wouldn't call on me again because they new they wouldn't like what I had to say.

Phil Anderson and wdfw, are continuing to favor whatever the large charter operators want.

We really need more private sportsman at these meetings, I know it's hard, when your working.

Their already talking about taking quota from other areas when area 2 uses up their quota.

wait, wut... Phil Anderson is taking the charter side, shocker I say, SHOCKER! Ive been saying it for years. Its turning into a charter fishery period. They are the vast majority of the folks that show up to these meeting because it is their job to be there.

This is my thought. Charters should fall under the commercial take and they should buy their quota from the commercial quota or have it sliced up for them out of that quota. They are getting paid to fish and therefore imo are in fact commercial fishing.

I heard other true sportspeople were shut out as well.

I heard WDFW didn't even want to spend a second talking about the by-catch either.

That's because Phil is the rep for the charter boat association, they were smart in hiring him, he knows the game well. I am not happy about it, he really sticks it to the rec guy.

The by catch issue is seriously frustrating and made so much more so that no one of power seems to care??!?!$

It should get every bit the attention that Harvey Weinstein is. It's messed up and wrong on so many levels.

One guy at the meeting representing PSA, CCA, and the PA Salmon and Halibut club... (this guy REALLY, REALLY only wants you to have 2 Halibut period a year). That has been his mantra for at least the past 5/6 years and he goes to every meeting, sends emails like a champ.

Then you have fuck head Phil Anderson reppin the charter fleet and using his influence to still fuck over the majority of the sportsmen/women all with a shit eating grin while looking everyone in the face.

Mean while, we cant fish but fresh Hali is for sale in the Midwest and all across the country. Yet the sportsmen/women can not fish in their own backyard.

Heather and Michelle basically dgaf about by-catch in AK lessening our opportunities/quota.

    I was there.

Yup. Also, if 93% of the bycatch from sablefishermen will survive if released, why are those numbers part of the equation? Or, if "bycatch" is a euphemism for "you technically aren't allowed to target halibut but can keep X amount anyway", then I would like some allowable "bycatch" of unclipped Kings next year in Puget Sound please!

I liked the response she gave to the guy who asked why Westport couldn't have their days earlier. After all, if they burn their quota early, that is their choice. (I won't fish that area just because it is open because it isn't where I fish, so I'm not going to run out there and get more of the total quota for myself, and if I did like some do, ????.)

Her response was basically, "Because that isn't one of the choices." ...Now I'll ask you again: Do you want to put on your Spider Man jammies OR brush your teeth before you go to bed?

The issue of tags? NOT more opportunities for ANYONE. Just more revenue. NO upside AT ALL for ANY recreational fishermen. If anyone sees it from a different angle than what I heard, explain it to me. This was not the discussion that has been promoted by some to allow a (summer) long season with an annual limit.

How can people all over the world, for much of the year, buy halibut, but I only get to fish for them for a handful of days because "we" have to protect the resource? How does that math work? ...wait...I forgot to add enough Benjamins.

It is BS that the meeting was held on a weekday in Montesanostan. I asked her about this and was told that the day and location was picked to make it most convenient to the interested parties. I guess that all you knuckleheads who are gluing airplanes together all week don't fish for halibut. On second thought, am I the only guy who isn't gluing airplanes together all week?

I might not have all the information, but when the Recruiter told me I was qualified for any job as long as it was "Polish Mine Sweeper", I knew right then and there the tests confirmed I was no idiot! Who worked out these great deals for us, the Iran nuclear weapons treaty team?

WoooHooo!! It’s friday and I’m about to start a sheetstorm! Lol

I like the idea of tags and opening up fishing all year!!!

I want to take my whole family out to the strait and trailer camp for a week straight when the weather is nice and the tides are flat:). We will have 10 tags between us and if we caught 4 fish we would all go home happy having had our annual family halibut safari and plenty food for the freezer.

There, I said it out loud!

    Release the Kracken!! :720icon:
    I’ll be popping the popcorn:)
