Got a standby spot so was the last man in on what most likely will be my last trip for the year. Got to the landing, checked in and grabbed the usual Fish, Shrimp & Chips for $9.99.. very good and the hot fries were just awesome in 58* weather. Loaded up and went to the bait barge and got live squid. That’s Mike in the picture who is now on the Shogun. Awesome dude.

Started the night off with a raffle and Kevin brought the goods. Grand prize was a Phenix rod which Kevin is holding with Mac next to him.

Woke up the next morning to some eggs & sausage by Brian which was just awesome.

Now here’s where the story gets interesting. Captain Jeff said we were going to target halibut first thing in the morning.. and I said to myself Target Halibut??!! What is this Alaska?!

So in 50 feet of water where the current was just absolutely ripping took all 32 anglers straight to the bow. It only takes a handful of noobs to fuck things up.. and it eventually did so I decided to sit that one out and take pics and tell a story for y’all.

Those who stuck it out were rewarded. First quality fish I’d say was around 30lbs to guy paying homage to Jscrib with the hat and Stumpy assisting.

So after about an hour of doing this.. we headed off to whitefish spot then on to the Cod grounds.

This is an average bag prior to sorting. The Red limits really quickly puts a halt to fishing as Jeff is very careful in not going over.

Mac got a nice Ling to round out the day.

And finally a shameless self promoting picture of the writer & photographer of this meaningless post.

Haven’t fished in a while? Want a free overnight fishing trip for 2022? Want to actually “Target” halibut in SoCal? Want to load up on quality eats before the regs get even more frustrating? This is what happens when The Eldorado goes to San Nicolas.

    Great report. Thanks.

I see 3 butts with left side eyes, and 3 right sided.

Were those all of the hali?

Nice ling, and that Red of yours. Wow. Way to go!!!

Thanks! Sorry not a halibut expert.. not sure what causes them to have eyes on different sides. Maybe someone could chime in?
