Hey guys first trip of the season. launched monday night from dana landing mission bay. went and got some mediocre dines and macs mix. we headed out to the 43 and towards sci. so we saw all the big multi days there and we were like we are in the zone, so we fish it troll a little. run and gun. we launched at 10 pm so we were there at graylight. so we see a whole lot of nothing. decide to go fish sci around noon. my buddy hooked somethimg large on the bottom dropper loop. saws him off 40. so we pick up some whitefish sheepshead and threw back some small bass. on the way in i lay down bad back and all. so at 35 miles straight west out of mission bay we find a foamer or 30 plus pound yft flyimg out og the water! wouldnt hit bait but my skipper throws a daiwa ss minnow and nails this 40 plus yft. i only had a flatfall on so the school left while we fought it!

Nice, hope the tuna seiners don’t catch them all before they come up... more fun than bft because of how aggressive they get when in schools

Did the same thing yesterday, super ocean conditions, we went 10-15 miles west of the 43 to find lots of non-cooperative BFT. On the way in, just outside the N9, big YFT busting under the birds. Definitely not bonito. IMG_2237.JPG

    Nice fish!

What was your Rod/Reel set-up in that tuna pic? Looks like a Lexa WN? What rod? What line/leader?

Might be Bft fins can look yellowish after dead and rubbed. Body and shape looks blue fin. Sheep head meat looks yummy. Nice job.
