Left the bait dock at 5 this morning with an amazing scoop of bait and headed south for my last offshore trip of the season. The seas were amazing and the skies were clear until I reached the fog bank south of the islands.

I found a kelp at 25 over 25 that was loaded with small yellows. I threw 5 in the bag real quick and called out the numbers and kept heading south in patchy dense fog. I stumbled apon a nice kelp at 11 over 25 that looked promising.

Water temps were 65.5 so my hopes of tuna were minimal. It started with wide open yellows that were a tad bigger, then turned into straight yellowfin after I released 20 or so tails. I made quick work of my limit and called a few buddies over only to have a sea lions show up and crash the party. The tuna bit well when using 15 and 20lb line and small number 4 hooks, but wouldn't touch any heavier.

I never found any water warmer then about 66.8, but almost every kelp I stopped on had yellows. I was back on the trailer by noon with plenty of Thanksgiving tuna for the family. Good luck and stay safe!!

I declared it was my last trip too, unless the bluefin push east...don’t tell my wife or I’ll be without a family this holiday season.

Glad you got em Cody. Next time I’ll bring plenty of beer to the party so we can get those pesky sea lion drunk!
