Late report. Launched out of SD Bay @ 4am on my Parker 2320, “A-Salt Weapon”...Had my dad & buddy Austin with me fired up and ready to kill some fish. Picked up 1.5 scoops of 5-7” sardines and headed south to get on some Yellowfin.

Ran down to just above the 32 line and found several massive kelps bunched close together...HUGE kelps — no sonar marks and after several long drifts for nothing we decided to abandon them. Hard to drive away from kelps that size...

Weather picked up and got nasty early, wind was cranking 20+ MPH. Decided to start making our way uphill and get some miles behind us. Ran up on empty kelp after empty kelp, but it’s never over until you’re back at the dock.

Spotted a nice looking kelp mid-afternoon at 13/16. Got baits in the water, flipped some chum, and we started getting hammered immediately. Better grade YFT 18-25lb class but they got finicky pretty quick. Light line was the ticket — 15# was the hot rod with a few bites on 20#. Farmed a couple on the light gear but got our share. All fish came on live bait & #1 hooks. Water temp was 70.3 degrees.

Check out the video below from the trip:

:appl: Way to go! Wish we could have got down the far. Weather turned us around before we got down there. Got a little snotty going uphill.

They finally started on the electronics last week so I am hoping for early next week. I hope to break in my boat like you did with bloody deck.
