WHAT A BEAST....off Loreto, on a Mack per WON I think?
The two largest were caught by Lazo on an Accurate Valiant BV2-800 reel loaded with 50-pound P-Line, 100-pound Hi-Seas fluorocarbon leader with a Mustad 6/0 hook on a Seeker rod with live mackerel. The largest tuna weighed 424.6 pounds, topping the current IGFA record of 385-pounds, 12 ounces by a click less than 40 pounds. Lazo’s second tuna weighed 319 pounds -- a two-day fish total for both the angler and his Accurate Valiant BV2-800 of 743.6-pounds.
I believe you are referring to the 400 lbr. they caught last year on a Mak 15.
Come on down buddy we are here all year!
We didn't harpoon the fish. Those are gaff holes. When you have one hooked up that big you just want him in the boat.
Say what? I'm referring to the fish as Gary and the fleet owners reported here with pics..
As caught last week. Caught on a MACkeral.....
Not that size and not in January.
I've been waiting on some reports for the Valiant. This is pretty impressive although it was caught on a private boat. If it was caught on a LR charter/open party boat, that would seal the deal for me to purchase a Valiant to fight tuna.
Am I reading that right, 50# braid with a 100# flouro leader?
Yes you are, 50# braid to a 100# flouro leader, Seeker rod, and BV2-800 reel!
Just wondering, why would a big reel like that be spooled with 50#? I seriously doubt it was for line capacity.
Jorge had 50# on the reel because he was specifically going for the line class record.
I will be in Loreto on 2/5/18 do you have the date available?
We just caught all 4 of those fish last week in January here in Loreto.
It was not caught on a private boat we are a charter service and he caught the fish with me.
Big reel? Are you familiar with the model we were using?
Dan, We have availability please call me tomorrow if you wan to book. I passed your information to Robert.
Well I saw the pic of the fish and someone was holding a rod in the gill of the fish and from what I could tell and an Accurate sponsor told me, it was a Valiant 800, not quite sure if it was a 2 speed.
Was the boat maneuvered to aid in landing the fish?
Was at the International Sportsmans expo in Denver today and some charter out of lapaz had a photo if a well above 400 today....Pirate charters maybe? Is the gulf now the hotbed for mega cows?
What was the water temp? Lack of wind this year?
