Jamie is a good friend and a good man and if you know him like how I do.... this is just his style and personality. I wouldn't look at this as "yelling"....view it as "passion". He means well and he's extremely passionate about the industry as a whole. Jamie was a machine at the FHS...he was constantly educating new and novice anglers about how to utilize today's technology to their advantage. I don't think any of us can knock the guy who's out there preaching long range fishing to the next generation of anglers....... If I talked half as much as he did, I would still be laying in bed looking like a squirrel with a cheek full of throat lozenges.
Seldom, almost never, will I ever make a personal attack on anybody here, publicly.
It was never about that, Jamie is a great ambassador for Long Range Fishing, no doubt about it. Yelling in all caps is nothing new, nobody died.
It was just the amount of threads on so many forums. I’m good, had stopped reading most of what Jamie had to say a while back. Personal preference, just hit Ignore.
I don't get upset when people use all caps, I just ignore the post. I don't get upset when a report is written without punctuation or paragraphs, I just assume that the poster discovered e e cummings in a college class and never got past him. And regretfully ignore it, because it gives me a headache.
But at the end of the day, how we communicate with others is important. And I think that it is both arrogant and impolite to use writing style (or lack of style) to force others to pay attention to you.
Gary gets it.
Let’s not get in to bad habits. Can you imagine if everyone did it? I too like Jaime but I do not consider him “special”.(maybe unique)
I am as neutral as effing Switzerland here. By training and habit, I try to write grammatically almost all the time...but that's me.
I agree that reading all caps is harder, which is why it is discouraged (actually, pretty much forbidden) in professional writing. Even so, I read posts that interest me, regardless of format. I will say this, though: if a post is, for example, in all caps, and the first sentence doesn't grab my attention, I won't read any further. So if the person was trying to "force" me to pay attention, they would have failed in their objective.
Beyond that, I find it hard to care.
Jamie is selling stuff...he is a salesperson for a paid advertiser and as a "sponsored" site.. read paying advertiser.... he tries to gain as much attention for his employer as possible...ie. all caps.. long long posts.....don't like it put him/it on ignore.....easy fix.
I have a 3 legged dog that shits & pisses all over the rug that I want to sell...
I wonder if I post.....ALL IN CAPS????!!!!...someone will buy my dog "Crappie" ( Not the panfish) ???!!!
Yeah, I've bought stuff at Bob Sands because of Jamie. Maybe $2K total. But he's also given me a ton of his time and that's been worth way more to me than whatever profit Bob Sands made off my purchases. I really don't think that it's about selling; Jamie is a good dude who's passionate about fishing and extremely generous with his time. BTW, Bob Sands isn't just about Jamie--not at all. I've had a couple of difficult issues and Sal really helped me out in a pinch. I have no affiliation with the shop, so this isn't anything more than the opinion of one happy customer.
I can see the point. At first I thought it was over the top. Look at the flip side with positivism peeps. Bd used to show how many views a thread receives and would only count one view from a member. Unlike AC was which just kept adding views from same member. A popular bd thread over ten years ago would get around 4000 individual views. I would imagine now its around 10,000 plus. Less then .01 reply. I would think from the positive sales feed back allot of people are stoked but they don't respond and the ones who do are grateful. If the posts help even one person who views it then it's a win win. I look forward to retiring some day but for now I work 7 days a week and I do not have the time to investigate each thread, no big deal to me. I dont think anyone has that much time as there are hundreds of thousands of threads. If you dont like it don't read it. No one is putting a gun to anyone's head forcing them to read.
I see these posts as a service to fisherman and a opportunity to discuss the tackle being offered at a discount with a heads up and questions answered. The caps is for attention with the intention of styling people out and not yelling at anyone imo. Maybe bold text would be better. I don't feel like I'm being yelled at. There is self serving but that's just naturally part of the territory. Been away for awhile and I'm seeing gear I didn't even know existed and long live the rollo foundation.
It used to be (LR reports and discussion). Maybe the (discussion) part has been removed but is still standing. I have requested a (LR complaint and drama forum) but i dont think it will be added for good reason dam that would be hilarious but detrimental.
If I ever need a super pro sales pitch. I know who I would want to hire.
Its harmless. There is plenty of space. I can only selective read on bd. Imo negativism is more distracting. This is not a bias opinion. Heck in 15 years never even got a reaction from the dude. Differant styles but I respect. There is plenty of room on bd the fh show is not all year
Again I see the point. It is over the top. There is selfserving. It would not be cool if everyone wrote in CAPS but this is a special case.
Heck maybe I do have extra time
It's like a pop up ad. More annoying than anything.
Consider yourself lucky and very fortunate if its the most annoying thing to you
Some people have contributed allot of thier time helping others here on bd and outside. Cut them some slack imo
Put someone on your ignore list and you will not see their posts anymore.
I wasn't going to be able to take advantage of any show deals as I couldn't make it down from NorCal. Last minute, I found a buddy from up here who was willing to pick up a couple of rods for me, if I could figure out how to get them paid for. I PM'd Jamie Tuesday night at 10pm, and he got back to me after he got home from setting up the show...last PM from him was at 1:30am...he was on the phone to me the next morning at 7am...we got it worked out, and I now have 2 new Centaurs at a very good price. In my mind, the man went way beyond the norm in customer service. At the risk of pissing anyone off, THANK YOU JAMIE
Not annoyed... More like kidding a friend.
What would the long range forum on bloodydecks look like with out Jamie? And all of us who contribute on a regular basis? Me personally, I enjoy all the different opinions and perspectives. Long range fishing is a dynamic sport, it's always changing, and me personally, I welcome the input from everyone. Take what you can use, let the other stuff go!
Bill gets it. Some never will...
Whats there to get?... BD has allowed tackle dealers to advertise on the San Diego Long Range Fishing Report forum and pursue business on here... some have taken that to a new level with CONSTANT self serving promotional posts! Just calling a spade a spade here (Jamie isn't my friend or my enemy)... get that?
Well crap, here goes the thread
Separate names with a comma.
