Back from Fly Fishing an amazing part of Wyoming, about 2 hours out of Cody. This was not too far from Goshen County where my father was born and our family lived as dirt farmers until he was almost a teen..Funny, the land my dad lived on had very little water while just 350 miles away, the water and surroundings are spectacular..
I was invited as a last minute replacement and man, was I fortunate. I will never get tired of saying another epic trip is in the books but this adventure was another... EPIC TRIP. I even was fortunate to be able to employ my new Sage R8 Core Rods and Maaaan, they did not disappoint.. The 9 foot 6 Wt with a fighting butt paired to one of my many Nautilus reels is off the chain great for all the applications I put it thru using a variety of Rio lines. And my 7 wt. Sage X still slings the bigger streamers beautifully.
We happened to hit a rare, full blown, Cicada hatch which was amazing..Weather and water clarity were as good as we could have asked for.. The wild life is magnificent including those incredible butterflies.. Yes, that is exactly how they looked in real life.. Good to be lucky as many states are dealing with weird weather and water conditions.
Dozens and Dozens of very big fish hooked and landed mostly on dries and streamers with some nymphing as well... Along with several not landed.. The visuals of the hook up are worth the price of admission so landing is not nearly as important... at least in my mind.. Here are just a few pictures.. Including the tube of truth, which honestly shows just how big and beautiful these fish are. The scenery is off the chain magnificent.. Pictures cannot do this place justice..
As a note: All the Brown Trout are wild fish.. Though some of the pictures (my poorly placed hands) hide the adipose fin, they are fully intact.. And the Rainbows.. Oh my.. All the fish are big, beautiful, immaculate and fight like heck..Stunning fish and incredibly run fishery.. Conservation is of utmost importance on this section of the river and it really shows. Of course no barbs on the hooks with all the fish carefully handled and released back into the water. Most of the fish are not handled by human hands at all as we just slide the hook out while the fish is in the net.. But I did want a few quick pics..Hey, I am human after all.
