I'm also looking for a Grady-White 282 Sailfish or 300 Marlin under $70k in the socal area. Both these boats have a enclosed marine head for the wife and a fishing boat with outboards for me. Need to get away from the El Cajon heat in the summer.

I have a 27 ft whaler needs new outboards but all the other work is done. New electrical new helm new fuel tanks I have it posted on and for the price you could put on brand new engines of your choice and still be under budget

Go with a 30 if you can. I've fished both the 28 is a nice boat, but I love my 30. You may do better sopping back east. I bought mine in Louisiana, and had it shipped. It was easy, and way cheaper than what I found around here.

I saw that above GW 282 Sailfish yesterday. Wow. Over 20k in upgrades over the past 2 years from going through the motors, new electronics and new trailer. Best used boat I've seen yet. Made an offer within hours of looking at the boat. Someone else pulled the trigger before my offer could be made by the agent. Snooze you lose. But in this case I had only minutes to make up my mind not hours. Bad timing. I believe in fate so a better boat is just around the corner.

Oh well the fun of searching for a newer boat continues. I'm at this time after looking at many boats from 24-30' I'm stuck on GWs. Going back east to find one for the moment is out of the equation. Hopefully another 28-30 GW footer will show up.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Unfortunately I let this one get away.

Best of luck. Best not to be hasty on big decisions.
Do your homework on those Yamaha 4 strokes. Many had corrosion issues.

I was slipped near that Grady last summer, nice boat. Don't be afraid to put in a backup offer, lots of broker boats don't close for various reasons.
The 225 Yami's do have lots of corrosion issues so be sure to have that inspected by a very experienced Yamaha mechanic as its a very expensive fix that could require a full repower. They are by far the most common power on the Grady's you are looking for.

You may also want to look at Pursuits, very nice boats too.
I'll have my twin Honda Mako 253 up for sale soon. Much smaller than you are looking for but does have a cabin with enclosed head and new electronics. PM me if you want more info, I'll be asking half your budget.

    Howie,

I did a fully restore/pimp out on our 2004 Grady Marlin 30'. IMO go with the 30'. The 28' burns almost exactly the same amount of fuel but is 1' narrower.

I know the boat inside and out. If I can help, feel free to reach out.

We did a ton of small custom things that have really made the boat an awesome platform. We use it for multi day trips in the sea or cortez and sleep 3 guys, a ton of gear and all the camping/food needs.

    Good luck. Awesome boat.

Thanks for all the replies. I took the advice and am looking at a 2005 BW 30' marlin on Saturday. If the yamis are solid, I'll spring for it after we debate a fair price.
This will be my last post on BD after being a founding member. Just too many know-it-all, internet "legends-in-their-own-mind" disrespectful assholes on the board now. You know who you are! assholes. Not like the old days when we shared information respectfully with one another without biting negative comments from the peanut gallery of losers. I'll just keep my locations, techniques and tips to myself on my 30 plus fishing experiences a year. You guys need to police these assholes before more old timers like myself also get fed up with these new juvenile millennial jerks.
    Signing off
