I had the pleasure of hanging out and fishing with Mark on an 8 day trip earlier this month, and using this box he recently built for me. The trip and box both exceeded my expectations.

The box is beautiful and a great example of fine craftsmanship, but it’s also a thoughtfully designed and very functional tackle storage system. And I’m confident it will also prove to be very durable and will stand up well to heavy use in the elements. I say that because there were 8 - 10 other examples of Mark’s boxes on the trip, some of which have been in regular use for more than ten years, and they are still going strong and still look great.

Mark, thanks again for the box. It was great fishing with you.
He may be called a newbie but he caught four or five of the big bluefin and everything else everybody caught.

Here is a very old, very mistreated box I refurbished for my buddy Kevin Crow. It was his fathers box and has a lot of memories for him..

I’ve been looking for a Butch Green Calico box in good shape for the last couple of years to use on local trips in the Channel Islands and it is amazing to me how the prices have escalated into the hundreds of dollars as I guess they are now considered “vintage.” The half-day box needs to hold a few jigs, a handful of swim baits, some sinkers and hooks. It went against my nature to pay that much money for a Butch Green Calico that while purpose built and nostalgic, was originally sold in Southern California as an upgrade to Plano boxes of that era. So a friend who doesn’t fish created an updated and optimized version for my needs : 10” wide, 7.25” tall, 5.25“ deep, one divided tray, epoxy sealer, many coats of finish, and 5# empty. Friction hinges are for boat hatches—they don’t slam shut, stainless marine latch, and a chunk of leftover teakwood. Pleased with the outcome and it should last a few lifetimes.
