Going on the Big X again, 10 dayer, late Sept-Early Oct this year (cant wait). Trying to lighten up my load of terminal tackle. What is the heaviest wire you need to pack?
mike... give me a call this weekend .. been looking for your ph # but lost it.. time to get excitedI will also be on that trip this year. My first long range experience. I have talked to Danny and Bart on the phone a couple of times and they both said what a great group this is to fish with. Can't wait to meet to everyone. Sept. can't get here fast enough.
good luck on the Shogun Ed. Be sure and take the long rod. looking forward to sharing the rail with you again.Looking forward to fishing with you this year. Great wahoo fishing on the trip last year. Hope the water cools a bit so the bait holds up and we have a chance at some larger grade tuna. Can hardly wait! Booked a June Shogun trip to get tuned up for the fall.

I fully agree with your logic. For me fishing is a combination of harvesting a vital recourse and having fun doing it. It's all about being a good stuart. If the fish don't bite and you have to use mono, make sure your mono is heavy enough that it can't be chewed through. This is something that has been bugging me for some time. I have been at the helm of a boat fishing the long range areas for over 35 years and we have boated several thousand wahoo. Every time a guy casts a jig without wire and it gets sniped off, that jig loges itself in the gillplates of the fish, insuring a slow death. Anyone who has taken a jig out of a wahoo that was swallowed should know this. If the fish bit off your mono attached jig, this is where the jig will end up. It also has to be detrimental to the bite for the boat as the fish swims off in a panic sending a bad vibe to the school. You should ALWAYS wire your jigs for wahoo.
