Will using the RP knot to connect mono to braid, with a long top shot, eventually cause damage to the braid when tightly wound on the spool?

So, I noticed when thumbing the spool to let out line, there can be a kind of sharp edge to the tag end of the mono when using the Royal Polars knot to connect the braid and mono, especially if the mono is thick high test like 100lb.

if using a long top shot, say a 100 feet, and winding up the knot onto the spool, will that cause some damage to the braid that comes into contact with the edge of the mono tag end, especially when tightly wound up in the spool?

I also switched to the FG haven't seen the need to finish it with the rizzutto I just do a couple half hitches at the end to buffer the mono tag end that spectra is so buried in the main line already.

That’s why I put A half hitch on both sides of the knot.

If there’s a sharp edge to the mono tag, then it could catch on spectra fibers over time. Cut the tag shorter, and/or a careful melt with a lighter or a rizzuto finish should help…

That said, an FG or a PR are better knots…

    It shouldn’t have any affect.

I use the Alberto for heavier braid to weaker mono and FG for weaker braid to stronger mono. Never any issues. I’ve even down 200lb braid to 200lb mono with the Alberto.
