I have always thought better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it. I have also been fishing for awhile and try to upgrade my equipment .

I finally pulled some of my gear out for a survey for an upcoming January cow trip. Admittedly I have a lot of retired gear too not shown. I suck at selling stuff.

Everything on the left except maybe the VISXS 12 will go. In the back are bait and wahoo reels. 4 will go( could use some advice as to which ones). In the front on the right, one will go for troll. So not too much right? A man needs his stuff. Don’t have a Porsche or a lot of fancy watches.

Mostly looking for moral support. Do I need to join FA? I’m sure John or Soda Pop will have sage advice😉

That towel in the starboard corner -

The stuff legends are made of.

ATD30
Old School 50SW

And wait for it - the Duel.

I would fish those 3 and call it a "quiver"!

The rest of the stuff is pedestrian compared to those 3.

Now you’re trying to confuse me.

If the ATD was topless or had more line capacity it would be going for sure. The older Penn 50W is a blue printed Cal Sheets diplomat. Has been a staple. But the Duel is a conversation piece and makes the crew scratch their heads. My reel bag has more drag than any of my reels. So there are decisions to be made.

I have a suggestion... since you've already decided and demonstrated that you don't need the money for your "other" reels.... why not dust a couple of them off and take them with you on your trip. You never know.

First.... wouldn't it be coool....if the bite on your trip was pretty good..... good enough for you to "rekindle" your love for them. Remind you why you loved them all these years. Just because there's "Newer"... doesn't mean it's better.

Second... I've been on numerous trips to cow town over the years.. and have always found a newbie or two who were "short" on dependable gear. Not thinking twice.... I offered up those rod and reel combos for the newbies to use in a pinch. Just be responsible I asked. Helped many an angler... in "that" moment of need!

Made many a good friend... and sold some of that gear to those "newbies" who enjoyed them on our trip. Made it more personable.... and they already did the test drive.... lol... so to speak. Could make THEIR day..... and YOUR day at the same time. Just a thought....
    Good luck on your trip!

Good suggestion. I have fished with some great guys. Smitty, Burns, Melton, and Nakamura to mention few. They were always generous with gear and advice. Time to pass it forward. I’m lucky because I drive to SD. Might be a little work but don’t need to deal with airlines or shipping.

Lol. I spent most of my adult life learning to do business travel with carryon only. Might need to trade my half ton for a 3/4 ton for this trip. Just doing the math on 15 rods and reels, terminal tackle, coolers, cloths, cigars, whiskey….

I have regretted every gun I have sold. I have never sold any fishing gear based on that experience. I figure my kids can have them all and hopefully they have some good memories attached to them.

But if something else comes along and you have something that is just sitting and isn’t special…perhaps someone else would enjoy it more.

Those Dual reels are great, I have a Dual speedy 12 its my favorite inshore reel. You can always loan out your extra gear to friends or family when they go fishing.

Given that there are only three species that we target: Big Yellowfin, Wahoo and Bait, I would (and do for my gear) eliminate any and all two speeds for 40-50-60# and bring gear for fishing the tuna on 80# and up. With two 50W reels, one for kite, one for the troll, the rest for fly lining or sinker rigs, you’re set.

Wahoo, 2-3 outfits with high speed gears and 50# topshots. Maybe one 30-40# outfit for fishing wire leaders that doubles for fishing bait.
