ROCKING R HUNT REPORT
Just got off the mountain.
First off, sorry to hear about the bad weather in SD and Baja. I hope all of you and yours are OK.
The weather for our first hunt, here in CO, was spectacular: not one drop of rain, Highs: lo 70,s; Lows: lo 40's. No wind, light breezes.

ROCKING R HUNT REPORT
Just got home. Spectacular hunt, best yet. Super weather.
Will post pics when I get my gear sorted out.
We had a group of lady archers and they were an absolute gas.
Lady Bow Hunters: 1 Elk: 3
Gentlemen Bow Hunters: 3 Elk: 0
Kill Ratio: 57%
Next up: 1st Rifle
hey Ali, am I correct in assuming you guys drive out there? If so how long is the drive?
Hello Everyone. I am going to post a couple videos. We were able to capture a few of the archery kills on video. These are pretty cool to watch.
Overall, we had two muzzleloaders and the rest were archery hunters. We had a 77% success rate with many first time elk hunters. It was a great season and we are looking forward to 1st Rifle which opens next Saturday. Hopefully these videos work.
First Rifle at the Rocking R
A few pictures are included. Hope you enjoy them.
Wow! I'm sitting at a conference in TX right now.
That looks like way more fun!
Conference!!?? Jeepers, its elk season!
I hope your conference is on how to shoot big bore rifles.
I'm going to start practice shooting next week! Please reserve the bull in the flat ground for me, I'm bringing fish .
Great videos and Bulls. How many total Elk hunts do you have at R&R per season (combined bow, ML, and rifle)? Thanks!
We average 8-10 hunters per Elk hunt. We do 2 Archery Hunts and 3 Rifle Hunts. Muzzleloader is included in one of the Archery Hunts.
Next year we will be adding a 3rd Archery Hunt. We will take 6 archers for the First Archery Hunt, 4 Muzzles and 4 Archers for the Second Archery Hunt, and 8 Archers for Third Archery Hunt. Then, we will keep the numbers the same for Rifle Seasons (3 Rifle Hunts with 8-10 per hunt).
Hopefully that answers your question.
As an expert bullshitter a conference is right where you belong.
The flat ground bulls are reserved for those on Medicare. They don't want to have to hang the old farts in with elk if the have a heart attack.
Going out tomorrow to sight in the rifles. I've got to remember to save one bullet for the hunt. We're leaving next Friday. Three nights in Santa Fe and a couple of nights in Telluride.
<---- This sea level fatty is going to die hiking around them mountains... I'll take one just off the quad trail then so you can have the flat land. haha!
I was actually thinking of "borrowing" a few of my motherinlaw's oxygen tanks.
Wondering how their hunts are going thus far......other than Sunday and Today (snow forecasted), the weather has been very warm up there and is projected to be warm the rest of this week. Hopefully the warm weather and full moon don't affect their hunts. With all the animals on that property, probably won't matter. Looking forward to the reports.
If I can get a deal like that next year I might be game. Good luck fellas and post up.
WE had a great time despite tough elk hunting and we even killed some stuff.
Full report this week. Getting pics together now.
Ali, did I miss your report or are you still pulling it together.......very curious.
Working on an article. Should be before the end of the week.
wtf, you getting paid by the hour?
