Newbie here and getting ready for 8 days in mid October. Are these colors be good, I need 15 bombs and deal with jigs later ?

4 green dorado
2 yellow dorado(looks almost green from picture)
2 orange and black hollow weenie
2 purple and black
2 blue and silver
2 pink and gold
1 black and pink
I agree with others, you don't need that many bombs for an 8 day. YOu could probably cut that list in half for the bombs and then bring replacement skirt materials in the colors you like and leader material, either wire or 130 lb Fluoro, crimps, and swivels.

My name is Alan and I am addicted to wahoo fishing. I will attempt to bring no more than 25-27 wahoo jigs on my next trip... 8-9 bombs, 8-9 heavy iron, and 8-9 chrome/gold/shiny jigs or something close to that mix of bombs, jigs, and metallic jigs.

Hey Alan, it gets way worse Brother! I have 2 wahoo bags now, probably a total of 130 pounds of wahoo gear! I'm getting ready for my upcoming 10 day, I have about 125 seastrike 33's, probably 60 in black chrome with custom mylar in every color known to man, probably 100 bombs mostly captain Jimmy's, plus a good assortment of JRI bombs and catchy tackle spinner bombs. Multiples of every color and size of DTX minnow, Cowbells, Catchy tackle spinner trolling lures, every size wire available including titanium, probably 150 or more single strand wahoo leaders from 27#-95# with every hook size for small bait to mackeral, plus probably 100+ Raiders of all types, tons of JRI wahoo surface iron, and I'm probably going to pick up some more stuff while in San Diego before my trip!! I'm a seriously messed up unit!!! It defies any logic whatsoever!!!! My girlfriend thinks I need to go see a psychiatrist! I think shes crazy! So that makes us even in my book!

It all started years ago on the Qualifier 105! Had a trip where we had 200+ wahoo in 1 day at Alijos! I burnt through all my wahoo gear in probably 2 hours! I begged, borrowed and pilfered whatever I could! The next day we had 140 more wahoo! I vowed I'd never be in that position again! It was so wide open, I took my trolling rod, and was throwing a maurader and and catching wahoo that way!!

Slower sink rate. Slide bomb fish came to the whitewater

This style of bomb burns back very fast with little effort. Heavy enough to fire far from the small profile and cuts through wind. Easy for the skinfish to get the hook also. A option

Greens and blues and silvers. I think Hoo can relate to Dorado food. Pink titty is excellent

Personally. I do not cast far on the slide cast. Or first cast from a troll stop

But this style has enough weight to fire and sinks at medium speed.

Yep, I lob out forward of the house and let the boat and momentum do the work and start grinding before I'm straight out from the back end of the bait tank. Then depending on where the troll fish is I either hit free spool before I'm halfway home or reel in and make a real cast out away from the troll fish

I saw a guy using this 40# very thin titanium wire with very small crimping sleeves. Could some one tell me what kind of sleeves and what kind of small crimper to get, getting ready for next month ?

Funny, my goal is to one day BE in that position!

And to catch a wahoo that weighs as much as my tackle box. ;)

I think I bought them at Fishermens Landing Tackle or Seaforth Tackle. Also went through ProluresOnline and search for mylar skirts. If you want to make your own bombs, Seaforth tackle sells painted torpedo sinkers (pink, orange, green, chartreuse) for wahoo bombs. If you come down for Tackle Days, KK Pono usually has a booth and has good deals on his bombs, otherwise you can get them at Ken Customs Reels in Oside.

    lougio,

Those bombs will work very well. Lots of threads on fishing them. Main thing is to cast out, let sink and then reel as fast as you can stopping the bomb before it gets to the boat. Wahoo will come out of the water and even land on the deck chasing your bomb.

When you get bit reeling as fast as possible just keep reeling and don't stop. Wahoo often dog bone the lure and are not hooked when they first take it. You just need to keep reeling to keep the line tight so when they relax their bite the lure slides through their mouth and the hook finally seats. Lots of wahoo missed by not keeping a very tight line.

Unless you have fished party boats a lot it may be a little intimidating to experience your first wahoo bite. Lures flying everywhere, fish coming over the rail and sharks ripping through. On my first couple of LR trips I just watched the circus when it was too crazy. Managed to get my share but did not feel comfortable being in the center of the scrum. I fished on the side away from the crowd. The year the wahoo bit on bait it was very pleasant to just fish live bait like you are fishing for smaller YFT. On my last trip I finally decided I would start being a little more aggressive throwing a bomb after watching the bite focused pretty much off the stern and not seeing any coming from other areas. ended up with my limit. Good luck!
