I wrapped a 10' blue ULUA recently and I am curious to know what reels and line test you guys prefer to use on this stick. I was considering a Newell 338. Also I'm planning to wrap a Super Seeker ULUA for the bigger phish with 40 or 50 pound line. I will probably cut it down 6". I was considering either the 533 or baja special for this beast. Which one and Why? Or, is there something else that would work that you guys use on your ULUAs?

depends on how you build the bottom... use discretion otherwise your reel may not fit. be ready to get the extra long screws.

i used single wrap 3M tape, extra long s/s screws on a 332 w/40lb. left the stick uncut.

any chance I get
338, 332, pf440, 533 Trinidad 30, toruim ect,

40lb line minimum, if their gonna bite the surface plug they won't discriminate the heavier mono, 50lb is optimum, less stetch and you can put the wood to them. If you ever have the need to fish 60lb a 545 worrks great, less gear ratio but you would need that for 100 class fish on the long rod.

did you put a reel seat on it????
I have 3 Ulua's 2 with reel seats on 1 w/o, makes a big difference in picking a reel.
I fish a TN40, SA40 or a Newell 533 narrow with a seat.
I fish a YTS, Newell 533 narrow, Newell 338 w/o a seat

I've got two Uluas. One is a super seeker and the other the older style blank. First off, don't cut it shorter than 9'. If you want a 6' stick, there's plenty of choices out there.
For reels, I use a Newell 533 and a Pro Gear YTS. I run 50lb line on them for a couple of reasons: I want to be able to put the hurt on a larger fish & I don't want to loose the 30 year old jigs I use. Only down side is I've straightened quite a few trebbles on salas 6x's! LOL LOL Here's a couple pics right before I straightened a hook!

My friend has a Torium 20 on his super seeker ulua and I can wing a jig a good 20 yards further with the Pro Gear. Plus, I like the lower gear ratio for swimming the jig.

I fish a Baja Special on my Super Seeker, it fits, barely (with 3M tape). I fish straight 50lb mono. The set-up is a little heavy, thinking about throwing on a PG454 (yts) that I got sitting around.

I said that I was considering cutting it down 6 inches, not down to 6 feet. I am probably going to use my p series 338 with 30# for the blue ULUA, and I'm still not sure what to use on the stuper steaker. I know that I want to throw 50# for da bigger pish, but I need some advice on where to cut the blank down from. Three off the tip, three off the butt? Or, six off the butt, if it could still handle a big pishy with a soft tip. Maybe I should just leave it at 10'? How long of a rod could you guys handle while fishing 50# on the SS ULUA. I'm 6' and 260#, I think I should be able to handle the 10' length.

There's a tiny little Hawaiian dude I know that uses 10' rods so bulk has nothing to do with it....

I switch between a P338 and a Torium 20 on my ULUA depending on which one I've blown up most recently... Straight 40# P-Line, sort of like fishing a 50# rubberband....
