Its all subjective. Which girl / woman have you seen lately who has the best ass / tits / camel toe / face who'd you like to fuck her brains out. Most all you fuckers would have to take a hand full of Viagra to try and even do the job. The hot woman is subjective as well as who is the best Captain. Its all subjective. Nite nite, Tex.

My vote goes to Roy Rose... (and yes I'm biased)..

One benchmark for this would be how hard it is to get on trips every year... top skippers have re-peat customers that re-book year after year, after decade.. on the same trips..

Tight lines,

Jeff
Couldn't agree more with this post and hence my bis towards Mike Keating. When I got the chance to leave the Dana Wharf boats and do a trial trip working deck I felt like I was heading to SD to work on a boat that I had literally never heard of. Never saw at a Fred hall show. Never read an advertisement in WON or the other magazines I piled up like the obsessed with fishing kid I was.

After seeing how beautiful the Spirit of Adventure was the question begged how the heck I had never heard of it. The answer was no paid advertising in many many years. 3 open parties a year to keep H&M happy and the rest of the schedule being all return charter year after year. The schedule this year looks the same as it did 15 years ago minus a few of the old guys that have kicked the bucket overy the years.

There are a bunch of great captains out there. If they were not good at their job, they wouldn't be driving one of those LR boats. I would have to say it all depends on your personality. If you like to chit chat and talk, you want a captain that does that. Or if you like the quiet type that just puts you on fish, you want a captain like that. I personally want a captain who maintains order among the crew and finds fish and gives tackle information and advice. I think anyone of the ones driving the major boats does that.

Bruce Smith, Justin on the Excel, Jeff on the Indy, Mike on the Vagabond, Brian Simms and the list goes on and on.

I've had a real good time with Roy Rose, funny guy
All of the Captains named above are damn good at what they do, like everyone is saying there is no 1 who is clearly the best above & beyond everyone else. Something that has not been mentioned is what about some of the Captains that are not fishing for 1 reason or another, there where some damn great Captains in that group, like Frank Lopreste, Don Sansom, Steve Giffin, Bill Poole, Eddie McQwen, Greg Trompas, Alan Fay, & I'm sure I've left a lot of others out. Sorry if I misspelled any names.

So many good choices but that depends on what area you plan to fish and what you plan to fish for. Then it's all about how you like to fish with that skipper. I know some Skippers that are very good at finding fish but.....

I had some fabulous trips with John Klein as captain. Some great ones with Grabowski too.
Agree with David...saw more than just the ability to find fish, or keep customers happy with both when they were partners on the Q...medical emergency at Clarion(heart attack)...Klein acted as nurse/Dr. and did a damn fine job, and Johnny ran the boat and all the political bullshit to get permission for the Coast Guard to land at Socorro...with a lot of help from LoPreste on the phones to DC from SD...some knock Klein, I'd pay money to fish with him again, because if the shit hit the fan, I know he won't fold...

I loved fishing with Sean Trowbridge and did many many 2-3 day trips with him. But he was an asshole and he passed it onto his crew which made it worse. Aron who runs the Shogun now was on the Legend and thank goodness he didn't pick up the attitude from Sean.
