I chose the Browning Buckmark in SS but it was a tough decision. Ruger has some excellent choices with the P45 my second pick. The standard Ruger MK series lets you get crazy with Volquartsen add-ons. Smith & Wesson? Beretta Neos? Walther?

This new pistol is for one of my 14-year-olds and will be his first pistol that is his.

You chose wisely. I like the ruger because the make aluminum fluted bull barrels and shit you don't need, but buy anyhow.

i LOVE my buckmark. its my favorite gun to shoot and accurate as hell. after blasting away w/ the 44mag (dan wesson) and 9mm (sig) it's always comforting to come back home to the wee (inexpensive) fun to shoot buckmark.

Yep. Any pistol I spend that much on is going to have the primer in the center...

    Those things do look sweet.

My favorite isn't listed, the Ruger Single Six convertable.

Of those listed, the Ruger MKII/P45 series would be my choice with the Browning Buckmark second.

The Colt Woodsman was the gun I grew up learning to shoot,

i like the Rugers, but with 6 inch barrel maybe even fluted for weight, i have one of those 22 22 mag convertables, hardly ever shoot it, it's almost new. anyone selling a ruger ? Im interested, looking for one.

Yep, all semi-auto's. I forgot to mention the kids already have access to a 22lr/22 mag revolver.

S&W 41...IMO the nicest target pistol with 1911 feel. Tough one though I really love shooting the Rugers for fun, especially the three screw single six.

Rueger 22 LR semi auto target pistol. They're a bitch to take apart but an accurate little pea shooter.

A bad experience with a rental Ruger, the ejection port, and the pull tabs to chamber a round are what pushed Ruger down the list for me. I do like how the Browning and the Smith have a sort of "slide" that you pull back to charge.
