Jumped on a 1.5 day leaving this past Thursday at 7:00pm. Instead of going west like the rest of the fleet we went South. Boxed the area, I believe the 302 most of the day for about 12 small yellows.

After seeing no sign of fish in the area Captain decided to make the run west. We arrived about 8:30pm and had until 11:00 to locate fish. Stopped on a couple schools for 1 70ish lb bluefin for the boat. Back to the dock about 1000. Supposedly most of the fleet did not do well Thursday night.

It's bluefin fishing at its finest, you never know when and where, water Temps are spoty everywhere and fish volumes are way down which = tough fishing , inside water along the beach and Colanett is cooler than normal , I think it's definitely going to be a different season with the predictions of a monster EL Nino and we've been spoiled for the last 4 years with incredible Bluefin tuna

Just got back from a 3 day yesterday. Early season with changing water conditions affecting fishing conditions. Started out west behind SCI where the boats had been conking 60 to 80lb BFT at night on jigs in a warmer bubble of water 5 miles square. That bubble dissipated and the volume of BFT in that area did as well. We struggled as did other boats in the area. We went looking the next day and found good daytime signal on BFT below SCI towards the 43 but those fish would not bite during the day and when it got dark those same schools we saw during the day completely disappeared. Sunday afternoon and bottom of the ninth we found a new area of fish to the east. Bigger grade with a 150lb average. Would find sonar schools down 250 to 350 feet and using 80lb on drop shot style sinker rigs with circle hooks and 12 ounce torpedos would bomb sardines down in to the zone for bites which felt like blue perch tapping on the bait. Would wind down and get tight. Hook to land ratio was not great but I got two good ones and my buddy got a nice one as well. Moral of the story is to keep a positive mental attitude and never give up no matter how exhausted you are from lack of sleep..

Well, I went into the closet where Willie sleeps. He came out some time today, but the door was closed, and we went back in, well enough to cover his head anyways, and is again, sound asleep......SO I'm not sure if this is an official "hibernation wake up" or just a peek out, and he said "f that, it's still gray and cold, I'm going back to bed"

I leave a week from tomorrow to pick up right where we left off. No shortage of fish out there and if they go on the bite it is going to be epic...

But those increases to fish processing costs...damn. It's going to cost more to get the fish cut than the cost of the trips....
