How many trips did you make last year by July 6th, where did you fish, and what kind of fish did you catch?

Quantity hasn't happened yet, at least for most, but quality sure has been happening. My friends dad got a 100lb yft on the 9 a few weeks back, big blue fin have been being landed and its early July. Personally I'd take quality over quantity any day. Dont worry you will get yours.

Last year at this time it was good. A month later in August, it went WFO. I'm kinda predicting a similar outcome.

Last 4 trips out to the 150 in my 17ft whaler produced NO YELLOWS on the boat. Had some decent bait and macks and it was a real treat watching boats around me hooked up .

A good size south swell from a Baja hurricane will make it go ballistic....I guarantee it...have seen this happen many times.........your fish dreams will come true........

Thanks for the input. I have watched this for over 40 years and I know it turns on by the 3rd week and July and only get's better ever week - hopefully till mid October or before the first big storm hits.

The media is just hyping / pimping out the season and trying to create a frenzy that just isn't here yet but we can hear them knocking..

I'm confused as to what ended and what you want to get started.

The WFO bite on 8# YFT or what?

I feel your pain/frustration on the bft. They've been a pita but tomorrow is a new day....:D

Fish are loaded with crab, down deep, with rare showings on top. High pressure weekends like we just had drive them back down quick.

What does that mean?....Patience. long soaks. Its fishing. We too have long, bad spells with no fish, high fuel bills, etc. Then the magic day happens that makes us keep doing it.

2 for 5 in the past few weeks. I blame it on the crabs and bad conditions. 2 of those 5 days were exceptionally nasty - squalls, 1 was navigational. The two days I had smooth waters with activity and good visibility it was on.

Good luck to you. We will see a redemption post soon.

Just keep doing what you been doing, you'll do fine, it's been a tough bite. We've only landed fish three trips out of nine tries. We've been lucky.

I wasted 2 trips to the 150 for nothing. Just go to Catalina and get live squid. Worked for me as well as most other people I talked to over there. I just got back after 5 days. Yellows all over the front side. The bass fishing was just stupid. They were hitting my powerbait without even reeling. I even saw yellows caught on the outer moorings of Descano and Hamilton cove. The Island is popping right now.
