I plan on going on a couple of short trips out of San Diego this summer for Tuna. I watched a couple of youtube movies and the line on the reels are blue mono for 25# thu 30# for small tuna and dorado. I use IZORLINE XXX smoked monofilament. Is there a color that is better than another depending where you fish?

50# you can anchor the boat with it. I may be exaggerating
just a little, but it is really tuff stuff.

    A word of caution:
Not all line mfgs. have the same diameters for identical wt. ratings.
As an example, the standard diameter for 20 lb mono is .017 but
I have measured as high as .020 and as low as .015 for 20lb. test.
Usually when a line is super strong you are really buying the next
higher rating that is labeled at the lower rating. So be wise
and carefully examine the label on the line you are buying
and compare it to a standard like any of the Izor lines they
don't cheat. BTW Izor XXX is my favorite. P-Line a close second
    but it has higher memory.

P-line, Izor XXX, or Ande. I have no preference which one (whatever is on sale when I buy a spool). I stay away from Berkley big game since the last three I bought spools were junk.

BTW, I will go straight braid to mono, just like floro topshot unless it is a picky bite. Call me cheap but I've been getting bit just as much. I just switch out topshot to floro if bite gets picky. Color didn't seem to matter with the floro.

As long as your bait is running fast, fish don't seem to care most of the time...

    All,

I've always liked Soft Steel. I still use a couple 100ft of Soft steel on most my 50lb and lighter outfits. Big fan of braid and fluorocarbon, but still like using mono/co-polymer on reels.

I noticed alot of memory when I used P-line. Maybe the line was old? XXX comes off the spool real well.

That's all I use for short or long range trips . Never had a problem . Although I don't put too much thought into it...........I catch fish.

When I first started fishing salt water I used p-line xxx, ended up having way too much memory for my likes. Other than that, it doesn't really matter, prefer blue or clear.

Izorline XXX in the smokey-blue color is my favorite mono. It's great stuff...soft (as in low memory) and strong which are the two things I look for in a good mono. Izorline First String in blue is a close second for me. It's a little stiffer, but also a little more abrasion resistant...and it's a little less $$.
