YFT 157 0n 40. Albi 70 on 20.
110-120ish and a couple 80's on the 40 pound. At Guadalupe I got an 85 on 40 pound as well.
I've caught yft over 200# and many over 160# on an 80# long (100 yard) top shot on party boats.
I would have no problem fishing 40# for fish up to 100#.
Getting bit is what matters most.
A kid recently caught an 87#? Bft on a party boat using 20#
How the fish gets hooked is more important than the line size. Imo
155 lb BigEye Tuna on a 4/0 Senator and 40 lb
85 lb YFT on 40 lb at Guadalupe.
96 BFT last year
We got a 141# BFT on 50# and the fish even swallowed the hook. I would bump up to 50# if you are targeting fish or see fish over 100# while flylining. In low light conditions while flylining or deep jigging I will try and get away with 80#.
84# but on a talica 10 with 40# floro
My best from a "big boat" is a 42lb YFT on 20lb Seguar flouro.
76 lb yft at Guadalupe. Private boat without the risk of tangles, should be able to handle a pretty big fish.
270 yft on a panga 100lb fluoro on a Tld 20.
5hrs. I posted it here on BD including pictures back in 2012
60# bft on 20# test with old school Newell 220.
92# YFT at Lupe on P-Line CXX
Is that the bait on the deck?
92# YFT on Big Game 40#, while long soaking a sardine on a 4/0 at the 'Lupe in 2006. Couple hours after that one, 86# YFT, same rig.
125# BFT on the Searcher on 40#
I think it would be interesting to also add in rod/reel to this.
Last year we got a 75lb yellowfin at Clemente on 40lb XXX. Reel was a MXL Raptor, rod was a 6470.
Nearly spooled on the first run (long soak on a sinker rig).
Fish kicked my ass harder than any of the larger bluefin we got last season, thing was a pissed off bastard of a fish.
77lb YFT Izor Trip XXX clear GFGR 700m / JX2
As a side note the record for blue marlin on 4# is over 500 lbs..
