As some may know I’m in the middle of a restoration on my 26’ Livesay. There is little to no information on these boats online. I’ve read every boating forum that mentions them including the threads on here. From seeing how my boat was rigged, it was pretty impressive. Seems like they were all set up for commercial use or serious private boaters.

I don’t personally know anyone that still fishes on these rigs, so any owners please chime in on experience with your Livesay. What I’d really like to know is what happened to the company? What became of the molds? I understand that Jay Livesay was the man behind all of it, Is he still around?

Wow what background search tool did you use!? And I’ve read all of those threads post for post. If you look at the people that were to have known Mr. Livesay, they have been last seen years ago on BD. I’ll try reaching out to his email. Scary how much info personal info can be found online.

Which time? They went out of business around 1980. Then somewhere in the late 80’s they tried to make a comeback with an updated version of their 1970’s boat. Saw it at the Fred Hall show. Obviously did not work out that time either. Great boat, but too deep of a V hull for most weekend warriors. Plus most people that wanted that style boat were buying blackmans at that time.

I had no idea that they where in and out of business. I’ve heard of people saying that their deep v’s were too deep. How crazy are we talking?

The 26 I’m re doing is 30ft overall and it’s got to be in 8000 pound range. Plus it has a lot of weight in the lowest point in boat. It doesn’t have a flush deck set up. it’s hard for me to think it’ll be super tippy unless I’m sideways in a trough. Could it be the livesays with smaller fuel tanks and the flush deck set up that brings up the center of gravity? I’ve been on a lot of 20-30 foot boats and whenever 2 people go to one side it’s always noticeable. Are the livesays ridiculously tippy to the point where they aren’t usable?

The one my dad and I had was definitely tipsy when drifting in bad weather. Worse than most boats as the hull has something like 5 degrees more deadrise than other deep V’s. Definitely still usable though. Just don’t put too many people on one side. You will love that hull going home in the afternoon chop though.

So 24 degrees of dead rise is considered deep, how much are we talking here?
I believe the steepest part of the hull is 29°
Then slowly tappers off to a less steep angle. Here’s a picture of the bow head on and the stern so you can get an idea of the angles.

So deadrise is measured at the transom, entry angle is a different parameter, nothing looks “too deep” from my perspective.
