What colors of jigs were getting bit when the Fortune got the yellows?
If it helps, my jigs have glow in the dark
On the eye and one side..
Weight near 8 oz to fish them close to the bottom
100% scambled egg and chrome with blue
We saw the fortune at San Martin Saturday, they were about a mile away from us. Didn't see what they were using, but we put 14 yellows on the boat using Ed's Jigs. Pink and white was the hot color..
I'm a big fan of blue and white Salas 6x adn 6xjr.
dorado, scrambled egg, blue/ white, tady 9 or 6x jr ...
Typically the Salas 6X, Blue & White is the best go to, but scrambled egg works well...sometimes
Two weeks ago on my boat, scrambled egg was the ticket!
Yellowtail don't see color
But they see contrast
Shiny/glow/ white and another color/ yellow/green gold/blue And on and on
You get the picture, color is to attract fisherman.
The right action of the jig is what makes the fish bite.
What ever you use fish it with confidence
I was on the Fortune, The Salas 6X in blue and white. Went 4 for 7. I saw them hitting every color & brand though. They bit 40 & 50 lb.
I was on the Fortune when the yellowtails came up. I used scrambled egg 6x jr and blue and white. But they hitting on just about anything. I recommend 40 to 50lb test line. I was using 30lb but I backed off on my drag a little. So I wouldn't loose so many. I got 5. Lost 2. Not bad for a rock cod trip
BUtterfly jigs ! I love the 6x jr but butterfly's get bit better and sink faster and easier 2 crank. Try one !
Blue and white
Scrambled egg, dorado, blue chrome w. Glow back, blue white, sometimes birdshit...and dont forget a sardine chrome pattern megabait...4 oz or 4-1/2.
I love them too it takes a little practice to get the jig going, it is mostly one lift, one crank, fast, and after a few fish, slow down to catch the lazy ones. Have fun
