I spent a lot of time fishing Raiders and bombs, but it was very weird. The 'hoo shredded my fluoro leaders (I used 200lb Yo-Zuri pink; didn't lose a jig or bomb) hitting on the sink, but I never got a bite on the retrieve, no matter how fast or measured I retrieved.

One idiosyncrasy of using the heavy fluoro leaders is that once it is scuffed up, the wahoo sometimes seem to see it, and don't bite. I may have wasted a lot of time throwing a Raider with a scuffed leader. But in general, on this trip they seemed to love the presentation on the sink...just not on the way back to the boat. Unfortunately, catching a bite on the drop...especially on wahoo...is one of my weakest skills as an angler. I am just not quick enough! I seem to be as good as most (and better than some) at getting a bite on the retrieve to stick. I've gotten better at that.

Jim, one thing that I failed to mention was that a 16oz cowbell was deadly on the troll. One dressed in pink caught 8 or 9 of the 28 wahoo the boat caught on the trip.

There were a couple of cowbells trolled on our trip........never got a sniff.

No expert here, but I think that what worked last week, might not work this week.

    :D

I hear you. My tiger stripe 32oz that whacked them last year didn't get hit this year.

That is legendary with wahoo. Still, I know I haven't been on a trip when the cowbells didn't work. Just four "cowbell" trips so far, though: small sample size.

I have never been on a trip, however, where they didn't want to chew on the color pink. It has always been either the hot color, or one of them. That's at least 12 or 13 trips now where wahoo were caught and pink worked, especially Raiders (and cowbells). I'm sold.

I towed a 32oz cowbell around on 3 different trips for nada. Purple and orange yozuri's were getting all the love on the last trip so I switched. Even the damn sharks (which were all over the murader's) didn't touch the cowbell. Every trip is different, stay flexable.

Omg, I think I bought enough tackle. I hope the boat is able to make it with all the weight I am carrying. Thanks so much!
    BTW, what is a cowbell???
Where we buck hunt up in my neck of the woods the cattle all wear cowbells. The deer don’t seem to mind. The running joke is that we are going to tie cowbells around our neck so we don’t spook the bucks!

I will be more specific than Bill:

    http://ballyhood.com/products/wahoo-lures/0-14-knots-junior-cowbell/

Just get one (I recommend pink, or perhaps PINK). Have them ship it to you rigged with double hooks and get a set of replacement skirts.

FYI: They have a deal, three for $20 off, so you pay $160 rather than $180, but I expect if you buy one at all, you'll just start with one. How much time will you spend trolling anyway? But this thing, along with the JRI Intruder (if you can get one), really catches wahoo. No kidding.

Cowbell is my go to troller in black/red. Replaced the skirt with pink/black marlin skirt to save a few $. Seems to work fine but the skinnies did seem to prefer the marauder on my trip so I was quick to switch it out.
