Hey guys. Getting ready for my 1.5 day trip in a few weeks on the legend. I have all my rods and reels, now i just need gear. I’m thinking jus get all the hooks, leaders, and other lures at fishermans or h&m landing… thinking some coltsnipers, knife jigs, surface irons, yo yos, and maybe a few topwater lures… any other lures i should get?
Does anyone have any good recommendations for a tackle bag? probably needs to fit 2–4 plano flat tackle boxes.
Anything else i should know? probably jus going to ask the landing on what hook and leader sizes…

thanks in advance!

    whichever has the longest bunk
On a 1.5-day on the Legend you will actually need very little gear. You can pick up two knife jigs and a half-dozen hooks of two sizes and a couple of 4 oz. torpedo sinkers at the landing's shop and you will be good to go. You are flying down from Alaska? Use your carry-on bag. I have a 1.5 in two weeks and although my heart wants to take the roller bag with fifty pounds of "anything is possible" options, I'm going to be smart and just use my day-trip Flambeau bag that holds five 3600 boxes, and pack only 4, lightly. And still not get hardly anything wet, I know.

If you're just looking to focus on what you need for that trip (sounds like you are) getting with the landing is the perfect approach. If there's a shot a night time fishing, depending on current stock you may consider grabbing a selection of jigs in the 250g range and up ahead of time. Only other thing I would be worried about is stock for the smaller day time jigs like the Zakana's.

The tackle bag really depends--are you looking for 3600? 3700? I love my Tak Pak from SKB (I think they are in the middle of being discontinued, so current inventory might be the last shot). If you just need something basic check out any of the Plano lines--I have the Guide Series and a KVD Series for my freshwater gear, really like both of them.

Personally, I use Channelock 718 (Duckbill) and 337 (Sidecutters) that I wrapped in cord myself. Yes, they rust--just need a little TLC every once in awhile. For braid, I keep a pair of braid scissors in my bag but I also just got a pair of Shimano split-ring pliers that have a very nice braid cutter.

Yes, Pitbull braid cutters are great! I’m going to Cedros Island
for 5 days and all tackle fits in a single 3700 box that goes in my day pack.

I've never used their tools (only thing I've got from them is their Figure 8's for rigging), but at that price point I would say the tools are probably not that great. Taking a look at their selection, the aluminum pliers they have look like a re-brand of every other plier I've seen with those removable jaws, that are awful.

Their split ring pliers are pretty good too. But it’s hard to beat these Toro Tamers at Charkbait for $20.

I picked up the Shimano ones based on input from another thread and actually used them today for the first time. To be honest, I didn't care for them that much--much prefer my XL Texas Tackle pliers, but one thing I did like is that you can move the split ring around with them, much harder to do with the Texas Tackle, usually have to switch to a different plier in my experience. Looks like those Toro Tamer's have about the same functionality of the Shimano and less than half the price.

The Toro Tamers have jaws like the HPA’s, and for $20 they look great! HPA’s have no problem with 300#+ split rings. I have the L and XL Texas Tackles, Pitbull, Owner, ShImano and HPA’s. Yeah, I’m kinda a split ring plier ‘ho!

thanks for all the info. im thinking of getting a pair of cutters, braid cutters, and a pair of pliers

i love this little cutter. it clips to your belt loop or waistband, retractable string so you cant drop it, and its nice and compact. havent used the higher end versions so no input on that, but the basic cutter has been great

im pretty sure i got the tackle part down, but is there any other thing i should bring? like bedding, pillows, clothes, etc?
Bunks are bare. Bring a pillow and bag or warm blanket. If/when you sleep, you'll be in your clothes, so you're ready to jump out and fish. A change of clothes a day. I bring deck boots and water shoes with thin quick-dry socks.
