Well, congratulations on a well-stocked garage!

On a winter five-day you are not going to be fishing way down the Baja coastline for yellowtail. You are not going to be encountering surface schools of dorado or yellowtail. You are almost certainly going to be fishing an offshore bank like Cortez or Tanner, and sonar-hunting within thirty miles of those banks for bluefin tuna schools.

Bring your two or three most capable and comfortable to hold outfits that can handle big tuna. The boat will have kite gear, you won't need your Mak50. There is a possibility that you may want to bring back some rockfish. I would bring the 40 JXRaptor rig for bottom fishing and the possibility of deep yellowtail. I have a Torque 40 too and love it, I always bring it. The HXRaptor and the Mak20 will cover the high end and are much easier to fish for multiple hours at a time than your heavier rigs.

If you want to you can bring more, but those four outfits will take care of everything that you are likely to encounter. I used to bring a bundle of outfits, but the past few trips I brought only four, similar to what I suggested, and never felt any lack. And brought back my six bluefin.

    Have a great trip!

A couple of years ago, I went on a five day trip between Christmas and New Year’s. It was all bluefin fishing somewhere south of Colonet. We fished that area for bluefin for 3 solid days. The fish were big. The smallest one I landed was 95 pounds and the biggest one was 218 pounds. I caught four fish, all during the daytime on sinker rigs. I used a 100 lb. set up with an 80 lb. leader. We did no night time jig fishing. It was nice to be able to sleep at night after fishing hard all day. On the way back up, we stopped for rock fish. My avatar shows my biggest fish of the trip. Every year is different, so I suppose you should be ready for anything. Good luck!

Looks like you have what you will need, and I’m sure you know the applications for each of your outfits. Strongly suggest you call the office and get their input on the proposed itinerary. What boat?

Your 40# outfit is overkill! I use the JX Raptor for 50/60 and the RGP Terminator for 60#. If you like that beefy a rod for 40# then you can certainly pull on a good fish with confidence with it.
