I think it is species dependent.

Wahoo - a usual bomb
Unicore- fish trap
Tuna - tough as a tady/Jri jig won't swim right if it is swimming too fast
Dorado are stupid - anything

I usually through a JRI 7 and time my retrieve and speed to the boat speed

I go to the bow and underhand toss a sniper or FF as far forward as I can and immediately start walking towards the stern. Quickly ;) By the time I reach the shit show of flyliners trying to straighten themselves out I am straight up and down, wind up and repeat or maybe fish bait since the boat has settled by that time.

Hearing the engines ease off gets my blood flowing... then listening to the Captain telling the deckhand where to throw the bait... it's almost impossible NOT to slide something back!

I prefer live bait on the slide but it can be tricky!

Sometimes there isn't enough time to go to the hand well, pin a bait on and slide it back.
Sometimes there isn't even a bait in the hand well.
Sometimes other angles see you grab a bait and think it's time to start fishing even though the boat is still moving... recipe for some tangles.

I have had the most success on live bait but recently I've been sliding a 100g Colt Sniper and it got bit so I think I'll keep doing that for a little.

If I'm trolling for wahoo and don't get bit I let the lure drop back further then burn it back. It works well with something like a Cow Bell, not so well with a DTX Minnow.

The Colt Snipers for tuna have worked great for me. As for line size, I'll always go higher than the recommended size. For example, I'll use 60# if the recommendation is 40#

The slide? What’s that ? Haven’t seen it done since albacore days.
We were throwing 5 inch swimbaits on 11/2 oz lead heads...
