What conclusions do you draw from a boat having lots of openings?

Some 7 and 8 day trips cancel and become 3 and 4 day trips. So many quality boats and the top tier fill 1st for a lot of reason, mainly repeat business.
I will only fish trips that are 7 days or longer. A boat canceling a longer trip would lose my business. I am of the opinion that there is no " bang for the buck " on trips less than 7 days.

Thanks for all of the info. Some good theories about cancellations in general. I agree that the LR fleet is stellar and that there's no way to go wrong. Indeed, I'm often amazed at some of my fellow anglers' tendency to nit-pick about "problems" when the overall experience is one that we're very lucky to have. That said, I'm not wealthy and always look for the best ways to maximize my 1-2 trips per year. Thankfully, the LR fleet is a terrific starting point. But if I'm looking for the top of the top it does make me wonder why one of the fantastic LR boats would have almost zero openings and another fantastic LR boat would have quite a few, spread over multiple trips. Is that indicative of feet-voting??? I did that a few years ago after my still excellent former boat seemed to drop down a bit in crew skills, most importantly swing-and-miss gaffing that cost me a couple of nice fish and marginal attention to safety. Anyway, I appreciate all of the input!

You LRer’s are a different breed.
    Different animal.
So much involved with it, it can be mind blowing.
    In all aspects.
Wally , the problem with them ,is once you go on one of them Trips ,
you get addicted to it , and every one after is different , its what gets you .

They will get full as soon as the fish bite!

As soon as they begin to bite the trips will fill up.

Two types of trips here. Not anything like Apples and Oranges.
More like Grapes and Bananas. :)

Longer trips (bananas) give us more (1) travel and (2) days fishing. Booking the 8 day I have in July and the 7 day I just added in September, couple of things I think we’ll see. Yellowtail are always on the menu whether smaller models on the Ridge or trophies at Alijos Rocks. Tuna, Yellowfin a maybe in July, a definite in September along with a probability of for Wahoo and Dorado. Tuna, Bluefin, a possibility for both trips but more probable in July.

Shorter trips, (grapes) most likely will target Bluefin first, then depending on what month you intend to fish, possibilities added for Yellowtail, Yellowfin and Dorado.

Longer trips are my go to, two reasons. I live 360 miles from San Diego and I do not care for fishing Bluefin in the dark. I can plan those trips 6 months to a year out.

Shorter trips are ideal for an angler who lives closer and can get into trying to sleep daytime hours and fish at night. Again, not my thing. Anglers can make reservations and/or grab an open spot when they feel it’s right.
