Is this reel worth buying? Is there a specific nitch for this reel?
Maybe casting distance for 40# lighter bait (such as fresh dead squid), for a 2-speed?
    Maybe 50# dropper-loop above a rocky bottom?
    What else?
    What say you?

Typically use that or the sx raptor if trying to catch a small bonita or 100 tuna. Good for anything between

Bottom fishing jigs in AK for lingcod, yellow eye and black rockfish. Would like to hook a big halibut but not yet. Worked in Panama for mullet snapper. Will try for Roosters and Cubera this year. Jigging or chunking. Mounted on a BlackHole Slow Pitch Jigging rod.

I use mine for yo-going, 80lb spectra to 60 or 80lb leader. Or dropper loop bait depending on the spot.

Oops, that's what I use my HXJ for, not MXJ.

My mxj raptor collects dust. I use my sx raptor 75% of the time. Great reel and is worth buying.

I absolutely love mine. I used it to catch limits of nice 22-40 pound yellowtail. It cast farther than my JX reels and had even more drag. I have three JX and a LX so I like those too.

I just bought a new 30-60 pound Phenix Axis for this reel. It is 7’8” and will be my surface iron and long cast bait stick.

20181021_084322.jpg 20170901_064116.jpg 20161008_145707.jpg Its my go to reel. I've catch just about very thing on it. It can cast a mile plenty of power light and smooth drag.

Yep - love mine and find it in my hands more often than not. Just caught a 50#-class bluefin on the last trip with it. Had to tie on a short length of 25# flouro, but it worked well paired with my Grafighter 800M.

Sadly, I've had one for over 2 years and it's still in the box. If my 25nld2 ever fails me I have a nice replacement.

I have 350-400 yards of 50# braid from Charkbait. I use 40# and never look back.
