Saltwater Westport Tuna Oldschool Trip

Took my A team, Mike and Wally out to get our game on before the WTC. The water was 1-3 ft WW on a 6ft swell and i wanted to see how things would go in a little rougher water. It went well. We stopped short of everyone and got on the fish rite away. Called Troy on the Legacy and he came my way. The talk on the radio was dismal, scattered fish and 1 or 2 on the bait stops, to much wind. The other talk was Darrel on the Reel Tight trying to tell a boat (didnt get the name) how to pull a x rap treb out of a finger with it stuck in the bone. The victim said he would drink FIREBALL and think about it for awhile. ( that would have been my answer too) After about 2 hours they did what Darrel said, tie heavy mono to the bend in the hook, give it some slack then yank it out. OUCH . Anyway the boat did well in that water. I think we did better than most catching fish. For sure in the top 5, but i think only 5 boats went out. lol FIREBALL BITCHES !!

That was a weird trip for us out there. We usually have no problems getting them on the troll, but on this trip it just wasn't happening for some reason. We trolled for 6 hours and only took 3 fish on the troll. We converted the first into two more on a bait stop and converted another one into 1 fish on bait for only 6 total. We fished the area you were in, we saw you right behind us for a while, then headed out a few miles SW abd fished with the MainBreak and Darrel on the Reel Tight and they were both picking up fish left and right on the troll. I have no idea. We were very successful trolling last summer. Anyway that was a Lottie frustrating, but that's fishing right? We will try it again next Sunday if the weather permits. Thanks for trying to help us out with the numbers.

We picked up 24 Sunday and 18 Monday windy both days hard to get much going on bait stops but did have 5 on at one time that was fun. Both days it seemed that the bite really died off around 11. I think like last year if you wait around till 3 or 4 you'll get a good bite going and be able to load up.

Good job on the fish gents! I buried a treble in my lower palm last season and as T-Mo and SoCal were trying to get a bait stop going I had to have FishFusion, Chris, pull the SOB out the same way it went in. It took 2 big yanks. I think it may have hurt him almost as much as it hurt me. Sadly the first blood on the Mojo that day was mine but after some patch work and a purple latex glove taped on all was good and we stuffed the boat. Thankfully it was brand new XRap with no rust.

Nice to meet you Andy. We were pulling the"Main Break" to run up and fuel and dumped her right back in. Not a Bad Day other than the Treble Hook in Ricky's Finger. At least it was a new VMC 3/O that went right back on the X Rap after I retrieved it from the Garbage, minus the 2 foot piece of 200# Mono that was uniknotted to the shank!

I did one of those with a number 1 Live Bait hook that was really deep and put a live chovy on seconds later and was hooked up, no Biggie. A big treble looks like it might hurt a little more? Thing is I did the entire dehooking by myself, cool shit!

Ricky, I was really feeling your pain over on the Runnin Kine watching you squirm in pain. I would rather take a hook almost anywhere rather than a finger.

I have done worse tho. I once shot trim nail thru a board and into the inside of a knuckle. Worst of all I stupidly ran my thumb thru the arc of a rc plaine prop while running, and sliced my thumbnail right down the middle. That fuggin hurt big time. They melted holes on each side and sewed it back up.
