I am sure the Boccaccio were caught inshore on the way in as I learned this weekend you cannot have rockfish onboard while fishing deepwater(past the 30 fathom line area 2 and 20 fathom area 3 and 4). There are a few of us that got reminded this weekend and I saw many others at the dock that were not aware.

Killed em in the DEEP! I can tell you Officer Ed will remind you about recording those halibut in a timely manner. That cost 100$!!

I was misinformed by an enforcement officer. We were in area 3 and I asked why you could keep deepwater rockfish in area 2 and not 3. He told me you could not in either area.

That rule is the “tequila Too” rule. Ken loves chasing yellowtails all season long!

And that is why I always keep a copy of the regs on the boat.

I was very dissapointed to see one of the La push charter boats with 6 orange floaters around him. Somebody needs to teach him how to use a descender. He probably has one to comply with the law but he sure didn’t use it.

The rule would be easier to read if they didn’t have so many excepts in one sentence.

Not really my style Patrick but I did fire him off an email with my observation and a suggestion to show good stewardship towards the resource and use a descender.

Just a follow up. The Charter operator in question responded to my email and expressed remorse and acknowledged the transgression. He also vowed to reconfigure his downrigger placement allowing him to more easily use a descender when running the boat solo without a deckhand. Overall a positive interaction as I thought I may have got no response or a defensive type of response.

Steve - Thanks for reaching out I hope that is the end of that behavior.

Guess i won't be able to use the hailer and Eli won't be able to try out his descender glock on the floaters.
